Allister Hood shows and rides a super chestnut cob, who goes out regularly with hounds, as well as showing at the top level. He is a true cob, who turns his hoof to everything, and whilst well rounded, is fit to do his job.
i had a mare who had such a good time, she would stand for my stallion for up to 10 days! I got wise to her, covered twice with a day in between, and she got in foal each time.
Years ago, long before KS and ulcers, I bought a 4 yr old at a sale as a project. I was told he was broken and riding. When I lunged him with a saddle on, he would buck himself onto the ground. Never seen anything like it, likewise when led from another horse. I discovered he was very swollen in...
That needs sorting before he gets bigger. Get an arm around his chest, and back him into a wall. Then make him stand while you run your hands over his bottom. He remembers the nasty bottom wiping, but he still needs to learn to accept your handling. Thats why I get the headcollar on by about the...
I didn't think there was a moxidextin only wormer. Which one is it? I've got two youngsters bought from Ireland, both had been wormed with Equest, but I'm convinced they are still wormy, judging by their coats. I like Equimax, but it doesn't do encysted.
She's had hock arthritis since 5, but I bred her, and her feet have never been any different. It is harder to keep the hoof/pastern axis right now she is unshod.
Not always. I have a welsh cross TB mare who has always had long toes no heels, with or without shoes. In fact, the only way the situation improved was to put natural balance shoes on. She's now retired and unshod since last May. Still no heel at all, and no toes to trim back as I'd be cutting...
Well, I've taken over two years to improve a mare I bought with issues. I have the time and the patience to work out what the problem is. Some people want everything in place quickly. Every horse is different.
I bought a mare who was very unsteady in her head when ridden. Turns out she had a rotten tooth, and xrays showed a major trauma to C1. I had the tooth removed, put a very heavily padded headpiece on the bridle, and she is so much better. Thinking outside the box, a good vet or dentist to look...
Sorry to hear this, but whatever happened to being in it for the long term? 9months is no time at all. Mares are sensitive and will pick up on your worries. Horses are not supposed to be passed on at the first sign of things not going to plan. Patience!
