Appleby Horse Fair - Anyone been??

I went for the first time this year, just for the day. I think you do have to go with a certain attitude and not allow yourself to be pulled into the emotion of it all, if you can do that, it can be a really exciting day. I definitely would not try and camp anywhere near Appleby itself but if...

Do Friesians really command such a price premium?

Freisians demand such a high price because of their versatility and usually uncomplicated personality. They are classed as a 'cold blood' which means that they are much more chilled about stuff than the dutch warmbloods. They have particularly good paces, make excellent dressage horses but are...

To loan or not to loan?

I agree with everyone else, I have just taken a 12hh welsh on loan, she is brilliant and everyone is happy. Be sure to vet the people properly and make sure you sort out a contract for them to sign, you cna download a generic contract from the BHS website and then you can adapt it to your own...

Any body ony good with Arab's breeding / can help me, big Please !!

Not very good myself but I had a little Arab and I found out all about her from Arabian Lines website, really good, lovely people. There is also a way to advertise on there. I think the Bint line is quite good, I've seen it loads anyway so assuming it's good. You can also search...

Hacking out on your own....Would you/do you do it?

I prefer to hack out with others but make an effort to hack out alone now and then because I think it's really good for the horse. I do always take a mobile and I always do a route I am very familiar with. I leave the exploring to do in company

    stringhalt or back out????

I had a horse with stringhalt, it was fine, he never appeared to be in pain but sometimes had difficulty on short turns etc. It can be hereditary but it can also be caused by injury. One can be corrected by surgery and the other can't. It depends what you want to use your horse for, but I...

Has anyone ever taken on a horse from the RSPCA or other charity?

I have a hanovarian x TB from rescue, he is wonderful but has created me a lot of worry over the years as he has been on and off lame ever since I have had him. I think you are very lucky to get something totally suitable from rescue as they wouldn't generally be sent there if they were viable...

    why do people do this

I agree with the others, I think you have had a lucky escape, so many people out there are just not genuine. See my other thread for my experience. Keep looking, don't lose heart your horse is out there somewhere waiting for you.
