Riding hats...... Why aren't they wearing them?!?!

Hello everyone. I always wore a hat whilst riding and when I went to work as assistant trainer at a few yards I was encouraged to not wear a hat, or wear a baseball cap (I should point out this on western training yards in the UK) I was unlucky enough years ago to have an accident whilst show...

I agree cornbrodolly, if you see my previous comment I have picked up on these common issues but monkey see monkey do!

Head and neck carriage - which is better?

It's actually undesireable for a horses nose to be as low as it often looks in most western pleasure classes, I went to a judging seminar and we were informed that one not very good judge picked a really low headed horse to win a big class and after that everything went to pot! So judging a...

Anyone changed from english to western?

Hi guys, I used to ride English for several years and by accident came across a western horse show and haven't looked back. After having a few bad experiences with western trainers I sent my QHxTB mare to I had the opportunity to train with a trainer and now am a western trainer and qualified...

Was this your first western clinic? Trail is an awesome display of how much body control we have of our horses. Glad you enjoyed it :-)

For anyone who has ever suffered with confidence.

Well done, I have had a lot of clients that have been really frightened of riding their horses to the point where they have given up. Such a great feeling seeing people enjoying their animals again. Keep up the good work, just set yourself little goals to aim for :-)

American Saddlebred / Paint etc - advice and info please

Hi, sounds like a paint horse and although these horses are bred to be quiet and workable its quite possible that she may be a little arsey if her work pattern is not consistent. Ideally she should get a bit more work and the owner should be telling you what they want you to do but I would...

Getting a horse to work in a "proper" outline Bitless?

Hi, i train youngsters bit less and progress onto bits when they have worked out to move away from the pressure. It would be very easy to make a horse heavy if you don't know exactly when to release the pressure. But the best way I can describe what your looking for is gently apply pressure...

western saddle owners, please could you tell me?

Hello, congrats on the purchase of your saddle and welcome to western riding, I'd be happy to look at a photo for you if you want to pm one to me although I'm sure if you ask your trainer they would show it. I wouldn't bother with a rear cinch, they aren't really nessicary unless your roping...

Western riders - how many of you in the South?

Yeah I'm thinking of starting a smaller version of Fallowbrook, used to be a member but to travel there from Hampshire does take a while. I think Hampshire could do with a social western club :-)

Western riders - how many of you in the South?

Hello all, just interested to know how many people in the South actually ride or have an interest in western riding? I am thinking about running a western riding club as there is a lack of one in the Hampshire area....

Surprisingly quiet! What am I doing wrong...re livery yard.

Hello again everyone, again...thanks for all the replies, will do my best to respond to everything! I'm not sure how effectively you could enforce DIY liveries to use services and as there are existing DIY liveries at the yard who will be allowed to stay until they move on I don't want to be...

Surprisingly quiet! What am I doing wrong...re livery yard.

The liveries and horses in training would be kept separate yes. Average price is what I am charging and I have added a few extra bits to it such as grooming and facilities are free to use, I have a dressage, showjumping instructor and myself available too for lessons. I do intend to run clinics...

Yep on ******* and a few others I found. I haven't added all in your list Gingerwitch as I feel those are things to be discussed once someone likes the sound of the advert and can afford the price.....I have drawn up a draft contract which I sent to a few people and it listed all that you...
