People who pen horses onto hardstanding areas

Hi Booboos, thank you very much for your reply. Perhaps I'll give the sand turnout a miss. I'm gonna try the horses on my crushed concrete area which has been tamped down; just hoping all the stones don't stick to the poo too much. We are on sandy soil and it's quite free draining, but my...

How do you build a sand all weather turnout area/pen

Thanks Holly, but guess what, Wagtail has no more room left in her Message Inbox for anymore, so I just need to hope she reads this thread or someone else can advise. :)

People who pen horses onto hardstanding areas

Hi Wagtail, can you tell me how to construct a sand turnout, eg, do you remove the top soil and then just put sand on top; what sort of sand etc etc. Many thanks.

How do you build a sand all weather turnout area/pen

Thanks Holly, I think Wagtail said she had a sand turnout area on one of the threads I read and that it was just as easy as hardstanding to construct. But I don't think she actually said how she built the sand pen. I tried to message her but was unsuccessful. But I don't have much experience...

Hi Black Beastie, How do you find the Woodchips on top of your hardcore. I have heard that Woodchips go all mushy and am just trying to decide what to put on my hardcore. Also, how much did it cost to do the area (metres or feet) please. Thanks

lost a front shoe- ok to ride on grass?

My mare lost a front shoe as well yesterday (first one she's ever lost in the 4 years I've had her). She looked quite lame and uneven this morning when I turned her out, but after the farrier came and put another one back on today, she was fine again. So I personally wouldn't ride my mare...

    Happiness is...

Happy Horse! Hope this isn't a daft question, but is she rolling in an arena or is this a turn out area. If it's a turnout area, what is under the sand please? :)

    Linseed ...a few questions please

Thank you, do you mean that buying Linseed in oil form is more expensive? My mare is a IDxTB and a good doer. (Grazing muzzle used) She is currently fed British Horse Feeds Fibre Beet, (quite sloppy), Dengi Hi-Fi Lite mixed in, a cup of oats & Vits/Mins. This diet has been devised as she has...

Can we start a 2012 winter boot thread?

Has anyone tried the Dublin Eskimo boots? Thinking of buying a pair as on offer at local store and will be cheaper than Ariat Windemere boots, which I was thinking of getting. Thanks.
