    Barley Rings?

used them when i first got a TB lad who was VERY underweight along with some other things and he put on weight very quickly along with no hotting up. However the next year I put him on his normal chaff etc with a large cup of black sunflower seeds in each feed (twice daily) his weight, coat...

Can you teach a horse not to kick out at others when being ridden?

Ive had 2 like this. The first got out of it with a smack with the whip every time he did it. The other I had to just work with it, red ribbon at shows etc . He would go out of his way to run backwards and boot something but hey ho, he was 13 when I got him so was unlikely to get out of the...

    Chipping Sodbury - Livery/Grazing?

bit hefty price wise for me ... paying £15 a week per horse at the moment for grazing so would be looking around that price again or just renting a field, may have a nose in some tack shops or something see if there are any ads up.

    Chipping Sodbury - Livery/Grazing?

Hi, Does anybody know of any grazing or cheap livery in Chipping Sodbury? I currently keep them up by Badminton but I would like them around Sodbury common if possible. (2 LW cobs both 14.3hh) they both live out so anywhere with natural shelter, an actual shelter or a stable would be good.

Ok, here it is.... seriously, why do people want to own thoroughbreds...

I like their personalities, mine have always been very affectionate, willing and a joy to do. They seem to get a very bad rep, but even the more mad ones I've had/looked after have just been a bit misunderstood. I dont doubt that there are complete nutters out there though just like with any...

    Clipping Cob Feathers

We only once had a VERY hair cob, rest have only ever had native style feathers but I used to clip down first then upwards when finishing off.

If you were a yard owner....

not even worth mentioning, the list would be unreal long and id probably be a horrible YO as im so fussy :o I would ensure though that no horses are left alone in the paddocks, it happens to much where I am at the moment and you end up with some poor horse left out going nuts

How many bridles do you have?

i'll just use one of them as an example - home bridle for hacking/schooling, another for jumping as he needs the grackle for this, a double show bridle, a snaffle show bridle, a show jumping bridle and a blingy montrosity which i have never used :p probably lots in the garage too boxed up but...

What's with this whole "Barefoot" trend?

mine I tend to try to get barefoot if possible, money wise it works well, stops them cutting so easily in the field when they decide to boot one another  and for roadwork i find them much more grippy. Its also better for stopping concussion on their legs when trotting on roads and to...

How long should horses be left with nothing to eat?

Mine general go in about 4pm, have enough hay to last them through to about 6 in morning the majority of the time. Somtimes though its been issues for me to get up there so early and Ive not gone up till about 7.45/8am ... i'll admit its not ideal that they've gone without for 2 hours or so but...

Problem purchases - on the increase?

I dont think its always the sellers... I think its the buyers. I have recently been selling a very well schooled/mannered lad who I can let pretty much anybody ride and he does the work himself, The amount of numpties Ive had view him who cant get him to go nicely at all was unreal. Hes found a...

    Help with problem horse

If your instructor and the stable girl are doing fine with him Id ask them to carry on riding and get some people to view him. Are you particularly nervous when you were getting on originally? Obviously I would have thought that you would of been the second time, which is a given, maybe he is...
