This was me about was two years ago after not riding for 15 years!! Its a slippy slope.....I now have a share horse, still have a weekly lesson and ride 2/3 times a week (would ride everyday if I could!)
Its a great feeling and I think you appreciate it more when you've had a long break. Out...
Sorry if this has been done before but can anyone recommend me some decent wellies? Nearly lost a mucker boot in the mud this morning so time for some new boots! Reasonable price that will last, not bothered whether they equestrian branded or not. OH has agree to buy them for me for Xmas to! :-)...
All of the above plus pointing out where progress is made. My instructor quite often says 'you struggled with ....... 3 months ago'. Its very easy to concentrate on what you can't do yet and a reminder of the progress made is encouraging :)
Hi it is a bit strange riding without an instructor there the first few times. Have a loan 2-3 days to and use at least one day to practise what I learn in lessons. Def helps having extra time to practise and helps you progress to! Hope it works out for you and take full advantage of the good...
Sounds lovely, love hacking out on a Sunday morning. I had a lesson this afternoon on my share horse and cantered her for the first time (last time I cantered any horse must've been a yr ago) :-) Doesn't sound like much to most riders but I'm soon happy with our little achievement!
This for me to! Only started riding again 18 months ago and I've been well and truly sucked in! I def use to go out more (can't remember the last time I had a proper night out) and watched much more TV.
This is a great thread!
Like many I have a totally non-horsey family and my earliest memory is seeing show jumping on the tv and nagging to ride. My dad started taking me for lessons and I was hooked - he's quite outdoorsey to so I think was glad I wasn't only interested in sitting in front of...
Hi, I had a 15 year gap and started riding again just over a year ago. I'd say enjoy it and expect to ache after your first few rides. I find having lessons invaluable because there seems to be soo much more to it then I remember.
If it helps, I have a pair of lightweight jods from sportdirect......very cheap and comfy. Not sure how long they last though as I haven't had much chance to wear them yet!

Couldn't agree more......I've had a really rubbish year so far and been round horses has helped me feel like I can deal with it.
Hope you feel better soon x
As a horse mad, horse less person the best gift I got was a voucher for a beach ride so experiences are a good idea and something she might not be able to afford normally. Other stuff I've are socks, gloves, flask and a horse Pandora charm
I'm in a very similar situation to you......my first lesson in 15 years was almost exactly a year ago. I feel your pain when your can't do something 15-20 years ago you wouldn't even think twice about.
My advice would be to find the achievements in your riding.....doesn't have to be anything...
