I used valerian root for my gelding, it didn’t dope him. Just made him more level headed and willing to listen. We tried a couple of things but this was the only thing I felt that made a difference without costing £50+ a month
That's great to know Nativelover as it was a Fylde I was going to try next, I tried a Kent & Masters as someone recommended but it didn't fit at all. Although the Maxam is too long it doesn't actually move around very much. He's extremely unfit at the moment but until I have a saddle that fits...
I have recently taken on a Fell who's saddle is massive! It's a Maxam cob saddle (18") and it pushes me on to the cantle and completely off balance. So now I am looking for a 16/17" extra wide saddle with the same type of tree, can anyone recommend anything? The local saddler is pretty hopeless...
My 8yr old has just got a new pony who compared to her steady but spooky sec B is very fast. Pony is 17 and knows her job inside out and has brought my daughter on loads in the 3 weeks we have had her. They are out jumping around 80cm full up courses and has hopes to join BS Junior Academy. The...
I bought my eldest a pony when she was four, she'd shared a few ponies and was really keen in the summer months and in winter I turned pony away. My youngest daughter got a loan of a oap midi Shetland who was a saint in every way when she was 2, she rode in the summer and on cold crisp mornings...
I'd pay around £2500, he's obviously sane and sensible which is priceless. He sounds like he has a decent jump in him and once schooled properly and ridden consistently by one person I'd expect him to improve. What I would be wary of is riding school ponies are ridden 2/3 hours a day, 5/6 days...
For turnout I use westropp over reach boots they aren't pretty to look at but I have a big moving mare who pulls shoes within days of them going on as she tracks right up. They are the only ones that last more that a few days as she slices through the rubber ones or the velcro gets muddy then...
She's out of a sec B jumping mare and a 15h warm blood - accidental covering on the mares behalf before the current owners purchased her. I don't want to put her through the stress of sales she's a lovely pony just wish I'd had more warning but sadly It's just not happened that way and I want...
After having bought a youngster last year when I had all the time in the world I have taken on 80 hours a week, I have 2 kids who have ponies and myself a horse... I bought a 2 yr old with full in tensions of showing in hand this year as she's very flashy then backing before turning away...

Be positive: I turn him out on my lawn for a few hours and we take him out in hand most days for 1hr in the long lush grass I'd happily stick him out if it meant he was his zippy, cheeky self but last year he was obese and I think he deserves better care, he's in harder faster work now which...
P's he's out for 7 hrs a day at least and if the weather allows he stays out all night with hay on the ground, he's a wimp who would genuinely rather be in if it's cold or wet
He lives in because our fields are either pony starvation / leg stretch paddocks or 25/30 acre cattle grazing fields. I can't pen a area off in the better field as he jumps 4 ft high and 2/3 ft wide from a stand still (jumped bs before we had him) and grazes less than 1mtr away from the penned...
Last year we bought a fabulous pony for my daughter (she was 6), he was fast, wizzy and at times could be sharp and spooky over the most stupidest of things! He was perfect, had his moments but always looked after her her no matter where they were or what they were doing, most of the times she...
