LOL.... at your comment spacefaer!!... That reminds me of the time i was bedding cattle down with the large round bale straw,...and EXACTLY the same thing happened to me!! I'm there, shoving away, trying the roll the bale out in the shed and i thought 'flippin' 'erries,...why is this bale so...
Yes.... as Milliepops has said, there are yards out there that seem to be very very reasonably priced, however i think you'll find that because they have to compete themselves with neighbouring livery yards, they HAVE to keep their own prices competitive enough to keep their stables full...
I love the 'smaller' yard, however that said, the facilities have to be good enough (and safe enough) to tempt me.
What facilities come with the stables OP?
Are you factoring in any trailer parking charges, bedding storage charges and hay/haylage charges ?
Just wondering that's all, as at some yards all of the above are charged for.
I moved my boy onto Agrobs Muesli in February as he'd gone off FF,....we've not looked back and he licks his bowl clean! One bag has last us 3 months as he's get only a token gesture of the feed to mix his vits and mins with. I've just ordered another 2 bags to last us through the summer...
I too feed it all year round,... although i do cut it down a little during the summer months. As has been said above, it's many benefits outweigh the extra few calories to a degree and it's great for the coat, particularly at this time of year when they're changing them. My boy used to itch...
I'd be getting out of there A S A P.... I'm afraid there's no way i'd be keeping a horse in that kind of set up (and I use that term extremely loosely as that in my opinion is no where near acceptable).
I hope your young mare stays safe enough OP...and sincerely hope too that you give some...
my partnership is relatively new towards some of yours i bet,...but i couldn't get away with much (not that i would anyhow as it's just not my style)...as he runs a livery yard and knows all there is to know about the costs that go with owning horses!
Oh I wish more livery yards would adhere to this kind of system. I loved it and moved to a particular yard as the yard i was on at the time 'restricted their turnout' in Winter (advertised as AYT everyday)...it became soooo restricted it was just NOT fair on my horse to endure so many hours in...
I read this post and couldn't not respond. My thoughts and hugs for as long as you need them are with you now.
As all the other posters have said, that utterly bloody heartbraking outcome post surgery was such a tragic blow, my heart goes out to you Michen.... love to you.
Words of comfort are...
WingedHorse.... I buy my Neem Oil from Pro Equine... (Scotland Based company from memory).. hope that helps.
It's around £18 per bottle (i buy the 1 litre size), it's 100% cold pressed neem oil.
I'm treating a bout of MF as we speak and my bottle of Neem Oil has been a godsend! With all the properties that Neem Oil has, it has managed to take care of our MF excellently.
I'm very impressed with the oil. I'm glad i had some (as i've used it in the past on minor cuts/abrasions and...
Echo the loan home option.... and if you wanted to, build into that regular 'visiting rights' (so you can see the pony yourself and make sure you're happy with things and more to the point, the pony is too). I'd be inclined to make sure too that this loan home doesn't use the said pony for all...
