Thanxs for the info and photos I'm thinking of using Rotspon next year. For some reason I just can't go past him when so many of the progeny are quoted as great attitudes etc
I am fairly sure that rather than haematoma its odema which is quite common in pregnant mares. I fed my mare 50 mls of apple cider vinegar - the unpasturised version not supermarket to avoid this problem.
The horse is lame it isn't even worth one dollar. In my opinion the purchase price of a horse is the cheapest thing about it. It sounds to me that the horse owner doesn't have another buyer just you. I feel sorry for the horse and owner.
A friend of mine had similar horse. Possibly it is due to growing very bottom high and the tendons not streching with the growth. IMHO make sure the horse has plenty of room to run around in and streach the tendons and they should catch up.
Sorry not sure about the colic.
Keep your horses away from the mud while he has a hole in his foot that will help stop reinfection. Also for my two cents, try putting your horse on bute so that he moves around on the sore foot that way the abscess will blow out of the coronet band.
Next try and identify why your horse got...
A horses I no longer have damaged her eye as a baby. Managed to cut it on the only sharp unfound thing in the paddock. She did have a blind spot in that eye but went on to a great career jumping electric tape and any thing else! I guess my point is that as long as you know what is going on with...
Black ones are the type you feed as they have the most nutritional value. The other type are more just ornamental with very little nutritional value. I feed 4 cups per day. They don't need to be soaked.
Do they have a hard puss like core in them? I had a horse get a similar type lump years ago and it was an allergic reaction to insect bites she ended up needing a course of steroids as it affected her immune system. If you don't already, try keeping the horse rugged & use insect repellant. I...
Herbal - chamomile flowers - like what the tea is made out of is a calmer. I feed 1 cup a day not for calming purposes- it is also a great source Calcium & Phosphorus at the correct ratio. Either Feed the flowers or the tea and don't make it into a tea as that will kill the oil in it which...
Have a long story but it isnt necessary to tell so similar to many of the above. Box rest is fine if your horse can cope if not then a very small paddock or similar is the next best thing. My BO and I agreed that a broodmare I had simply couldnt cope with extended box rest and it really, due...
Yes. Fetlock joints fuse at 1 month of age, Knees I think 3 or 4 months which is why remedial action needs to occur quite quickly. Also my vet who did my foals surgey asked me why do you think this happend? Before I could answer he said ... there is no answer it really does just happen no matter...
Hi Pocomoto just a quick update not trying to have a go . The problem in Australia is that the horses are not vaccinated for Equine Influenza which is why it is running rampant. Australia was EI free so basically we had never heard of it and so didn't vaccinate for it. Most people do vaccinate...
