    Pony getting cast in stable

Thanks for the replies. Shay, she isn't getting stuck with all legs in the air but is stuck against the banks in her stable. I think it's just that she can't get any grip on the wooden sides plus being incredibly square across the back (& fat) doesn't afford her much leverage.I will try Scats...

    Pony getting cast in stable

Thanks for the reply, I am stumped as to what to do. And it's good to know it's not all Shetlands. Obviously our one is a little strange, it's not like she's getting cast right up against the stable wall either, more like a sheep getting stuck on its back although close enough to the wall that...

    Pony getting cast in stable

Hi just wondering if anyone has any suggestions to help prevent my daughters Shetland pony from getting cast in her stable. She is 38" and kept in 12x12 stable with enough shavings bedding & high banks to support a 16hh! Yet still every so often she rolls coming in from field and gets cast. Then...

    Shetland Pony Society

Thanks for the replies - it's all new to me as I've never had any Shetlands before! The information you've given is great 👍.

    Shetland Pony Society

I have recently become the owner of a registered Shetland pony & was thinking of becoming a member of the Shetland Pony Society. If I want to show do I have to be a member or would I need to join the NPS too? It's all a bit confusing. Does either society provide a list of relevant shows? If...

    weird lump on head

Personally I wouldn't worry about it. My old gelding developed two boney swelling above his eyes overnight and when the vet came he said much the same as yours. They were there for about 2 years and then seemed to disappear.....never caused any problems, just unsightly.

    Manuka Honey on wounds

Didn't the other poster show pics of shoulder wound treated with Manuka? I wouldn't think it'd kill him if he licked it but prob check with vet. It is incredibly sticky & will prob collect half your bedding up with it but if it works, who cares?

    Manuka Honey on wounds

Used it smothered on the inside of special non stick pads which were covered in bandages (was hock that was affected). I can't view your colts injury but is it possible to cover?

Ps ... Horse was stitched but stitches broke down over night on the first night.

    Manuka Honey on wounds

Friends horse had the most horrific field injury during summer & Manuka honey was used from the moment wound occurred. I was told the higher the number on the bottle, the better. I honestly thought horse would end up with loads proud flesh or at least horrendous scarring but amazingly has only...

Clippied my itchy shetland today! Now need opinion on his skin!? *pics*

Nikita, This looks exactly like the itchy bits on nieces Welsh A last winter! Did the same as you, clipped him out completely - got vet up & he said it was an allergy to something...?! Could have had tests done but it could be anything...Left scabs alone & within a few weeks they were gone...

    Stupidity!

Last weekend, at a major showing show, I witnessed real stupidity. Parked alongside our lorry was a trailer containing a young horse (approx 3yrs old & 16.2hh) which was far too tall for the trailer, head lowered because if it even lifted it to look out of the open front ramp window, it would...

    Re: The last unicorn advert

Just picked up this edition of H&H and was reading it at the kitchen table with my niece earlier tonight. Browsing through 'horses for sale' section the conversation with said 10 year old went something like: NIECE "oh my goodness, look at that - there's a unicorn for sale, the LAST one"...
