    Anatomical dressage girths?

Thanks everybody... I'm definitely not putting them on backwards although that was my first thought!! Best girth I found for him on his GP saddle was an acavallo but the short girths just don't look as good.

    Anatomical dressage girths?

I have tried a couple of anatomical dressage girths with my IDx recently to help give him room for his shoulders and elbows - really just to allow him to go forward a bit more. Unfortunately I'm still seeing white hairs/grease on the girth where his elbows have come into contact. And this is...

Cheer me up - livery woes. Different planet ???

This is why I no longer do livery yards! I had one livery yard who refused to turn my horse out because he couldn't run in a herd (he got stressed on his own and stressed in a herd but was happy with a single companion or in a strip where he could see other horses). I offered to pay for electric...

Horse stiff but only on one side?

My young horse had similar signs to your horse. He had repeated episodes of curling to on one side when being ridden - saddle would be pushed to the right and his tail held to the left. He would be slightly short and not going forward. He would fall out on circles and was generally wrong! Saddle...

    working over his back

I've been lunging my horse about 3 or 4 times a week to try and encourage him to use his back more (he also likes to pull himself along!). What I do is add poles to the mix - so I have 3 poles on a semi circle raised slightly at one end and 4 poles raised at one end on a straight. Also a random...

Looking for a good comfort bridle

I've got a Horse Bit Fit ergonomic bridle cost £95. Horse LOVES it and he is a very fussy beast.

    UkCC level 1 assessment

I did my UKCC Level 1 and Level 2. It was hard work and I only worked part time at a riding school rather than full time. I found the course days invaluable but I did get some of it paid through funding at the time.

The Myler bit... Should I? Or should I not?

I've used Myler 'real' bits but now have a cheaper Myler 'style' bit which is very similar to the Myler but has an extra feature (its a loose ring with a low port for the horse's large tongue but has bit sleeves to protect the mouth). I got it from Horse Bit Fit who came out and did a...

Too much of a good doer

I feed long oat straw and chopped oat straw (efeed) during the day, out but muzzled at night. Both types of straw is dampened. My horses only eat it if hungry and don't guzzle it and have lost weight successfully. Both are exercised regularly.

Saddles and horses - Long Rant (sorry)

I have watched it - it is both fascinating and scary! It also illustrates how blimmin hard it is to spot lameness. I've contacted the physio (who works with my vet practice) to see if she can assess him and then talk to the vet - as she did with my other horse. He's coming next week anyway to...

Saddles and horses - Long Rant (sorry)

Interesting! I would say his whole topline has changed not just wither area and although lots of people have remarked how well he looks I personally don't think he looks that great. Plus he has always been reluctant to work in an outline, prefers to lean, is stiff on bends and has a tendency to...

Saddles and horses - Long Rant (sorry)

in 2016 I decided to save up for a nice dressage saddle for my lovely ID x gelding (now 9yo) and spent some time doing research on saddle makes/types. At the time he was quite rotund with a small wither and slightly croup high. In 2017 I had enough money and plumped on a make of saddle I thought...

    Selling saddles

I've just sent a very expensive dressage saddle and it cost £29.60 Royal Mail Special Delivery. Insured to £2500 and medium parcel (18" x 18" x 24"). Worse bit was dropping it off at the Post Office. My husband did it as a favour to me BUT was told by the jobsworth on the other side of the...

    Judges Funny Comments

Not a judge's comment but a fellow competitor who was showing a pure bred arab. Looks at my connemara and asks "Is he an Arab?"
