No. The vaccination must be within 6 months but a minimum of 21 days before the competition. So if horse was vaccinated 1st June and you want to compete 21st Dec, you must vaccinate again 1st Dec.
I'll go against the grain and say I've had nothing but a good experience with E&L. I've had 3 claims - colic and two undiagnosed lameness issues. All have been settled without quibble. The only downside I would say is that it took a while to actually pay (they had accepted liability so I knew...
I feel very lucky with my yard. Stabling in barns with large tie up areas, good outdoor school and small indoor. Good hacking with minimal roadwork on quiet country lanes needed. Lovely people - barely any bitching (and with 20 odd owners thats good going!) All year t/o in small groups or...
I think this is the difference between being on a small 'private' yard or a larger DIY livery. I've been on both and at the smaller yard (myself and two others) we would help each other. All three came in and turned out at the same time. If something was ever amiss none of us would hesitate to...
My pony learned to stretch at 15! We were doing re-hab work following a fetlock injury. The things that made a huge difference to her were these -
Physio - she has always been a tense, wizzy pony who's first instinct was to 'giraffe' when under pressure. Physio helped loosen some of the tension...
4/10's lame on flexion and vets recommended hospital visit for nerve blocks and xray. Nerve blocked foot, then fetlock which showed us where the problem was. Xrays inconclusive but allowed joint medication to the right place. 6 months on, sound pony and just keeping fingers crossed!
I loved mine. Fetch in pony from clay mud, hose down and jump on to ride. They were warm and comfortable and supportive around the calf. You note however the use of the word 'were'. My first pair lasted 3 months. Ariat replaced. The second pair did a little better at 4 months. I didn't bother...
Lots of long reining - sepentines, s bends, poles - all will encourage a lower head carriage. Hacking out, allow the horse to stretch and always reward with a scratch on the neck as soon as she lowers. Don't even think of trying to achieve an 'outline' at this stage, just encourage stretching...
But insurers make very little from vets fees cover. The average claim for this is £3,000. They make money of loss of use cover. This is why they now exclude the slightest thing. It's worth challenging though your vet is onside. I've just had an exclusion written back in but also one declined...
What if these horses were old, or injured (but field sound). Would that make a difference? Is it just that the horses are 'going to waste'? If so, it doesn't sound like they give a damn.
If two acres is not sufficient for a horse not in exercise, people had better start pts their retired horses...
You really do need to stick to hamsters if you think a blood test would rule out any problems. I really feel for Alfie. You've just signed him off to a totally uncertain future. I really hope for his sake (not yours, you don't deserve it) that his new owner is genuine. Sadly I fear this horse...
