Fab thanks, I’ll take a look. Just seems whatever I’m doing now is managing it but not treating it as it comes back the second I stop. I just want it to heal up once and for all! We’ve had her 25 years and she’s never had any skin issues so it’s unknown territory but she’s old and got Cushings...
She is lacking several teeth so is on Spillers senior super mash & small handful of Alfa-A oil and a cup of micronised linseed. When it started she was turned out 24/7 she is now out in the day in at night so gets haylage over night but doesn’t eat huge quantities of it. Her diet hasn’t changed...
I have a 32 year old TB x who has well controlled Cushings. Around July time we found her in the field stamping one hind leg uncontrollably to the point she’d really worked herself up and was wobbly through exhaustion. The vet came out as an emergency and couldn’t really work out the issue but...
I am in the exact same situation as in I’ve got a 32 year old TB x cob who has Cushings and arthritis. She’s also on 2 bute a day, half a prascend and a recent addition of paracetamol too. We too have debating if and when to let her go as she found last winter tough but right now we seem to have...
I have a 32 year old TB x cob, who has to live out 24/7 or else she stiffens up. She is in absolutely amazing condition currently but just lately every time it rains she ends up shivering even when it’s warm out, she just can’t handle being wet anymore. I have a no fill waterproof turnout rug...
Thanks, I’m just at a loss as to why she’s suddenly got these scabby areas. They’re on like the back of her fetlock/heel area but only the one leg. The flamazine is doing a good job at softening them up so I can remove but we’ve obviously not got to the root cause as they’ve come straight back...
Hi,
I’ve got a 32 year old TB x who very suddenly about a month ago was continually stamping and kicking out with one back leg, it literally came from nowhere. We think she’d been doing it all night and got herself all worked up and was really wobbly from exhaustion and was in a bit of a state...
That’s exactly what she was like this morning- she just had a layer of flies all over her. She wasn’t too distressed by them but was shaking her head and stamping her feet from time to time. I’ve never ever known them be this bad before.
I have a 31 year old mare who I’ve owned for 23 years so not new to this problem but OMG I have never known it be so bad for flies. Not horse flies just normal blue bottle type flies. My trusted home made concoction of skin so soft, tea tree & citronella oil isn’t working. I’ve bought Power...
Hi you may remember me posting last week asking for tips for my 30 year old mare, well we had the vet out on Tuesday for her booster and teeth and I asked about testing for Cushings. The vet seemed to think as she’d no symptoms that I didn’t need to test but I opted to do it anyways and the...
Thank you everyone for your comments, it’s been so useful. She’s currently fed mollichaff veteran, spillers senior super mash and spillers senior conditioning mix. I make the mash up with extra water and then mix the other two in so that it’s just a big slop and she seems to manage it well but...
Ok will deffo try that, I’ve got summer sheets and fleeces I can layer with and got a couple of LW turnouts too. She used to be rugged when she was clipped out when younger but then spent about 6 or 7 years not wearing a rug at all, she was out all winter naked but for last couple of years she...
I’m North west but it still isn’t that cold but there were days over the summer when she ended up shivering if it was wet so she wore a LW rug for a lot of the summer unless it was scorching hot. I have never ever been one to over rug, she used to live out without any rugs quite happily but she...
