Update: deep breath, pulling socks up and continuing to sparkle.

Really sorry to hear about CS, I always look out for your threads. Sounds like the right decision however hard. Onwards to even more amazing things with Goofy. How did you come up with that name for such a beautiful horse!?

    British Dressage Rules

This. I have a problem when people sometimes claim their horse is 'snaffle mouthed' when its strong and numb, and gets pulled about because of the lack of response. I'd much rather it was in a stronger bit which it respected and could be controlled harmoniously with a light touch.

    Downsizing trailer.. those with 505s

I Tow with a 10yr old diesel Mondeo, I have an IFOR 505. I towed my 16hh TB with no trouble at all, with my Big WB (prob knocking 600kg) in its absolutely fine except for steep hills where I prefer a run up, but it managed a hill start half way up recently. I took the partition out and got...

Showjumping - Different type of fences

At BS at least half the course will be spreads, many will be square and most of the fences at max height (unlike BE where usually only a couple are max) spreads are also nearly as wide as they are high. As you move up the things that change mostly are technicality and size (again not just height...

Studs? Front feet/back feet? How many do you use?

I use 2 in each shoe, but with slightly smaller ones on the inside of the front feet, and used boots all round and a stud guard. I'm not a fan of single studs as I think they can cause twisting.

probably will get jumped on but ....

I've known several horses over the years that go very well in a waterford, they tend to be warmblood types with thick tongues and low roof of the mouth. The waterford curves to fit over the tongue without poking into the roof of the mouth the way less jointed bits do (even frnch link/losenge...

    Numpty question re towing

You don't really need a 4x4 at all if you only tow 1 horse, I used to tow 1 horse (TB) in a Ifor 505 with a Ford Mondeo estate and it was fine. You do need a properly big heavy estate (a volvo V70 would be another one), and I recommend a diesel. I was even stopped once by the police doing a...

Anybody know anything about the development of the body protector pre year 2000?

I remember helping at my local PC in the late 80s and seeing a light blue body protector made of horizontal strips of foam (or soft polystyrene) it went over the head like a poncho and had thin velcro straps at the side and crotch. I don't think I have any photos of anyone in it though.

"POA" - sellers - why not just say what the price is?

Anything in life is only worth what someone will pay for it. The issue comes when theres a mismatch between the seller's and buyer's expectations. Doing your research only goes so far, horses are individuals, its not like buying a car, and they have a lot to do with personal taste. I...

    Studs for xc at 90?

I know its more expense, but better have the holes and not use them than wish you had them and slip. You can make that call on the day. Fwiw I'd always go with small studs all round (2 per shoe to maintain foot balance) just to be safe and give the horse confidence. Including dresage on...

what bit for fleshy tongue tb?

My old tb had v similar problem he went best in a basic french link hanging cheek snaffle with a drop rather than a flash. Recommend you try that combination - mine hated the bit moving too much, and as it was relatively thin there was pleanty of space.

    Equissage Massage Pads

I used to borrow one and the main purpose of the pad seemed to be to hold the massage units in place, but it did diffuse the vibration too. I think the other big reason for it is to warm the back, because its non breathable it warms the back fairly quickly, so the hand held versions wouldn't be...

    clipping-EPSM-what would you do?

I'd go for a low neck and belly/chaser affair, take off about half the neck, a little over the shoulder and a low bit of tummy and leave it at that. The riding school I used to work at did that on quite a few of the hairies that lived out (in light rugs) and it seemed to let the heat out -...

    Advice re: tying a stock

It sounds to me like bat girl is right an the stock the OP has isn't the traditional sort its one that sort of 'cheats' (no offence intended) I have both sorts but this one, I think, is a collar that velcros at the back, then has a strip of material sewed vertically at the front, then the...

    Help me stop counting!!!

I had an instructor that taught us by counting dowm 3,2,1 jump... which was actually helpful at first but I couldn't stop either, I just made myself count the same number so 3,3,3...3 jump, becuase I hadn't got to 1 I just rode the canter... (I'd got for 1 in your case) After that I stopped...
