They are habronema lesions, caused by fly larvae attacking the soft mucosa around lips. Treatment is ivermectin wormer and fly control
Can also be found around nose or eyes.

I washed them all for photos so all wet, the black hind the sulcus does seem to go right up, I did prod it and she seems ok. I have blue sprayed...

Yes she has cavallo simple boots for fronts as just won't walk on any stones, she plants. We don't have any Tarmac it's all stony.
If its a back op(kissing spine) they won't wash down as bandage quickly to wake horse up. I know mine looked like that after ks surgery - they get them out of surgery as soon as poss, need area to dry to get bandage to stick.

My mare gets this, it is down to weak capillaries and the saddle fitting well - the place where the lump comes up is not where saddle panel sits. So the pressure is along the saddle area and the fluid leaks into capillaries. Lump pops up - and if you press thumb into it it dissipates
After trying To rehab my mare from injury I have decided to retire her
