Following on from the post before: My cob-type horse has just lost another shoe by looning around the field. She has lost serveral this year and I am seriously considering moving her to barefore (she only has fronts). However whenever she loses a show she is v sore until a new one is put one...

    Haflingers at dealers yards

Thanks for all the information. The haffie I have is branded with the Westphalian brand and has papers. I suspect she was bred for showing, but her conformation (toe-in) would have made her unsuitable. Her passport shows her broodmare grading - so I don't think she was bred for meat. I...

    Haflingers at dealers yards

I have noticed that several dealers are now selling Haflingers. Does any-one know where they are purchased from ie meat markets, unwanted stud animals, general markets. Also what price the dealer would have paid. I own a haflinger mare imported from Germany and registered as a broodmare...

How long did your horse/s live for?

WB 16hh- 8yrs old PTS by injection due to Navicular. It was 15years ago and I chose not to have her de-nerved. I only owned her 6mnths. It taught me a sad lesson on the risks of buying horses. She was PTS at the vets - I regretted not being there, but had an exam that day. Welsh pony -...

    Farrier/sedation ADVICE needed

My 6 year old can be a bit of a handful when shoeing & is scared of the smoke when hot shoeing. I lunge her for half hour before the farrier comes to take the edge off her. I also give her less hay the night before so her is more interested in her hay when being shod. I find these both help

    Fly Sheets....

Hi My pony has mild sweet-itch and I find the Rambo Hoodie is great. The rug does cover a large area of the belly and has ear loops which are great for protecting the poll area.

COPD - 20 year old pony getting worse

Hi I also had a much loved pony with COPD - although she suffered much worst in the summer than winter. Her breathing would get v bad if humid and if the pollen count was high. I owned her from 5yr and the condition only really took hold from about 17yr She was first treated with Ventapulmin...

    Allergy to grass

Hi I had a mare who would get summer time breathing problems - very badly. She was fine in the winter on soaked hay - but come Spring she heaved badly and breathing became an effort. It got progressively worst each year (from the age of 17). It was managed at first on Ventipulim (sp.) , then...

    FAL Pro Sweet Itch Rug

Thanks for your replies - I used the Rambo hoodie last year and was pleased with it. I was wandering if there were any better alternatives before I buy a second Rambo hoodie as a spare

    A little Grace update...

    German passport question

Hi. I brought a 5 yr old Haflinger that was imported from Germany. She has a Westphalian passport - but there was no name - but all the other details (description. breeding lines etc.) were on there. I contacted them and they did have a name registered for her - it just wasn't on the...

    is this odd???

My Haflinger name was blank. She was passported in Germany at 6 months old - so I guess she wasn't named then. But when I contacted the Studbook - she did have a name registered with them.

    Wierd canter?

Is she young? My young horse some-times does this when ridden - but she is only just learning to canter so I think it is greenness.
