Worst experiences on livery yards you ever had

I thought one of my old YO's was just dreadful to me and wondered what I had done wrong, until I left and discovered plenty of other disgruntled ex-liveries. However, I heard a new story about this lady the other day, from a new arrival at my yard from hers, which absolutely takes the biscuit...

    Prognosis for fractured leg?

A mare at my yard had her cannon bone fractured by a kick yesterday. The bone was not displaced and the vet felt that it was worth trying to treat it; she's now on cross ties with her leg splinted and heavily bandaged where she will remain for the next eight weeks. The vet couldn't offer a...

Quick Answer Needed! Haven't talked to loaners for a while...

and about to send them an e-mail. What would you say? I need to ask them how they are getting along, if they've had any probs, etc, and apologise for not keeping in touch more often and not sure how to word it. Quick replies needed please!

    Wish me more luck, please?

Is this your old mare again? Everything crossed for a miraculous recovery and lots of ((((((vibes)))))) coming your way. :)

Should I risk putting my boy on part loan?

I think £80 a month is reasonable, but you might have to be prepared to drop a little if you don't have much interest. personally I felt unfair charging sharers who were doing my mucking out on the days they rode, but thats just me. With regard to your horse - my mare is safe but by no means...

    Spurs

Never use them. My mare has been punished with spurs in the past; it took TWO YEARS for me to be able to touch her with my heel, without her going into total panic and charging off. I hate to see spurs used incorrectly and I'd think very carefully before using them on any horse.

A plea to all of those with 'problem' horses

I don't agree with shooting a horse that could be rehomed happily, including those with minor issues. Particularly if the owners were too damn lazy to put in the effort to find a suitable home. I'm not condoning what these horses owners have done, if indeed their issues were minor and there...

    Your most embarrassing fall...

Years ago at my RS I used to ride this extremely lazy cob called Sophie. She was gorgeous but really, really bone idle and could grind to a halt from canter if you stopped using your legs for a second. Anyway, I was learning to jump and I approached a cross pole on Sophie, kicking all the...

Had a bit of an arguement- am gutted days later!

If you don't enjoy him, then either sell him or have him PTS. Just because you do not enjoy him doesn't mean no-one will, he might be someone else's perfect horse. And if you can't find a home for him, have him PTS - he won't know anything about it and if he's going to be dangerous to bring back...

Who here resides (horsewise) on a LARGE livery yard?!

There are about 40 horses on my yard, which is both the largest and the nicest yard I've ever been on. It is well run, there is little bitchiness and people tend to keep themselves to themselves, which is the way I like it. I also find that with so many horses on DIY livery, that my mare knows...

    Grass Sickness

The poster above has mentioned the website I was going to suggest, grasssickness.org. If you haven't already, click on the section marked 'recovery' there are several case studies which detail exactly what and when these owners got their horses eating during their nursing. You may also be able...

    What should i do? :/ ?

I think you are really lucky ATM in that you have a really honest, genuine little mare who really tries for you - even when you make mistakes such as not getting the best approach to fences, or coming in a bit fast. Speaking from experience, I have found that bigger horses tend to be much...
