Awesome thank you for posting love the ending the rider was so thrilled quite rightly so as well. It also triggered the great memories of our first ever trip to WEG and what a fantastic time we had and made us determind to go to more which we did.

I have watched that so many times and I still love it! It's not technically perfect but it just makes you smile. I also love his spook at the over-exuberant salute at the end :D

This is the dressage I love to watch, the horse isn't spidery and over-moving, the whole test looks well within his capabilities, he isn't tense for most of it, the rider is rewarding throughout and is obviously thrilled. Just put a smile on my face, whereas some of the tests eg: totilas' not so good ones, I am just left thinking 'lord only knows what goes on behind the scenes and how much drilling it in it takes to achieve that'.

This is what I watch when I want to feel inspired by the idea of training further and also when I feel a bit jaded about horses competing. If only, if only the exuberance and joy that these two show here were more influential. I guess in Iberian disciplines they may well be but this does present the opposite of a kind of joyless, mechanical but well executed style that you sometimes see and which on occasion trainers seem to actually aim for! Not all horses are this expressive naturally however; Fuego must have been good to work with, even if tricky at times. :) :)

Fuego was amazing and never got the marks he deserved. However I saw Totilas for the first time at the Windsor European championships and my non horsey OH was captivated by him.

I thoroughly enjoyed their performance and have watched it a few times since. In my view they had the best music. In fact, it's the best music I've ever seen; it suits the horse perfectly, and it's undeniably Spanish.

I can see why it didn't win. Precision was sacrificed for showmanship at times. The short Spanish neck and tucked in chin look tense, which is why so many judges don't like Iberians. They look tense even when they aren't sometimes.

What I like about it is that the rider is thoroughly enjoying himself. He isn't stiff and serious. . He's an excellent rider, but you can see him riding. His hands move, his legs move, you can see the aids he's using. As an amateur that is good to see; although he's an amazing rider, it seems attainable. Whereas some riders look like they just sit there and flex the 3rd mole from the top on their right buttock and suddenly they are in half pass.

I'm also impressed at how shiny Fuego looked. It isn't easy to make a grey horse shine. He didn't look as mirror-sheen sparkly when I met him ? Still beautiful though.

That’s the nature of the beast and it has to be said Totilas always finished his test calm and confident and that more than be said at the end of Fuegos test that time .

Well he did do a whole piaffe/passage tour one handed while the whole crowd cheered and only spooked when his rider got a bit over enthusiastic in his celebration, I would say that was pretty chill.

I just saw a rider who was so thrilled with his horse that he waved his hat madly in its eyeline, which quite understandably shocked a hot horse. I broke my wrist doing something similar to a solid cob ?.

I remember watching this combination in an Olympics do a 20m circle of one time tempis.... one handed and using his other hand to get the crowd to clap along. Jaw dropping!

There is a really nice interview with the rider if you follow the Facebook link - he says it's the best test of his professional career. Apparently Fuego was close to exploding when they did the first extended trot and the crowd went wild!
