Good luck to today's competitors- michen, I know its frustrating but I think I'd rather be going on firm ground than soft with a soft tissue injury. We can't protect them from every possible risk I totally understand why you would be precious with him but get out there and go for it. You could wait for the perfect conditions and wait forever. Possibly they've not done anything because it's not needed it

Literally wrote the text to withdraw. Argh!!! So tricky.

Right Roxylola your message has motivated me to at least go and look at it and do the dressage. I had set my alarm for 6 as that was the amount of time I needed to get ready (have yet to do anything- literally anything)... and am still in bed with a coffee contemplating life ?

Up I get!!!

Rooni has had a busy week. We went to Fieldhouse for M75 and the BD 7yo (AM96).

He was great in the medium with a tough judge, one big spook hammered 3 movements and our collectives but we got the score we went for (just shy of 66%).

The 7yo was interesting. My time had been moved ahead by 40 mins. So after 1hr15mins break I cantered 2 circles then went in. Predictably we had some shocker moments so earned a good spread of 2’s and 3’s. Ended up on just under 63% which I’m delighted with given the circumstances.

He was a total pleasure to ride and handle and I had a lovely day.

Saturday we went for a lesson and worked the AM/PSG stuff, he was so super and I’m really chuffed with how he’s coming along!

Plus, how gorgeous is he!

Today, a nice 3 hour 12 mile hack for both the boys. A new route but impeccable behaviour and just the loveliest time.

Had a good gallopy hack yesterday. Then XC schooling at Somerford today for the first time since the broken collarbone. Dolly was full of confidence and Katie was so happy to be back out there. Last tune up before the next ODE sk I'm glad it went well. Pics of hack and clip of XC below.

And I have thrown my hat in the ring for a summmer loan of a lovely mare. Along with many others, apparently. Nervous wait to see if I get lucky. It feels like being back at school waiting for team selection: pick me, pick meeeeee!

Some lovely pics this week and lools like some super results for people.

I went out for more stressage. Last time out horse was backwards which means I rode for every mark I could scrape. Today, nice horse, sack the jockey. I ended up with reins like washing lines and broke in both canters. Still positives to take away and maybe we will get lucky next time out and both bring something to the table! Just over 64% and enough for 3rd.

We went from having zero plans to having a really fab day!!
There was an EI event on yesterday about an hour from us, OH decided he fancied going xc schooling - sure didn’t the planets align, and the flagged course was open today for schooling so off we went.
OH hasn’t ridden for a while (been away with work) but they flew round and tackled all the 90 fences and a couple of the 100s.
Super day out. Our friend came along with her supercob who jumped fabulously. Really happy!

Ta-da! Months and months later than planned... Small Twerp got on the lorry ?
I knew she'd be the one to achieve it first, she's a smart cookie who is brave and just needed help to figure out the bit about putting her front feet on the ramp. The rest was easy.
Frankel got front feet on and then his brain slowly departed, he fell asleep and that was that. A job for another day. He found it very confusing when she was on the box without him (even though she was right in front of him) and then he ran around like a dingbat ?

Anyway. We're out of the starting gates at last. As the forecast is alright I'll be able to keep going now. I think she will need a few more goes and then I'll turn attention to him.

Roxylola I have you to thank for this. I had honestly already text the secretary when I saw your post and gave myself a kick. I was actually really pleased with the xc going.

Will write a report later but this guy would have won his section if it wasn’t for too slow time faults on a hard sj and too fast on what I thought was a great xc.
One of only 5 double clears.

started crying at about fence 8!!

I can now say I’ve seen an elephant from horseback!
Great day out at the charity farm ride. It was 12 miles altogether- some fields and tracks and some lovely quiet lanes...and a bridlepath right through the middle of Chester Zoo!
I’ve not done much road work on Millie coz we have such busy roads straight from our yard, but she was so good.

Today’s lesson was actually quite good. I spoke to my trainer for a good 15 minutes before I got on to go through last Sunday. She basically said the same thing that a lot of you did - I need to just get him out more because it’s the atmosphere/people/things to look at that’s the issue, not the jumping. So I’m trying to find as much as I can get to (the issues of having no transport!).

The lesson itself was great and really fun but taught us a lot. We basically worked on getting him to listen to me a bit more when jumping. And once he had worked in a bit, he went the best he’s done in so long!

Not much for me this weekend. Rode in the jumping field at home on Sat and popped over a couple of the jumps that were left up, didn't think anything of them but when I got off thought they looked a bit big so measured and one was just over 80 and one was an 85 oxer! Super pleased with how I didn't think they were too scary! Buzz is awesome :)

I kept this quiet as I was absolutely bricking it- but we toddled off to our first ever Hunter Trial at Foresterseat yesterday. Entered the dizzying heights of 50cm, but it included a scary wall with a little drop which was just giving me utter nightmares for irrational reasons. We arrived and there was a 2 hour delay due to a pretty bad faller- but once they got things going again they scooped it back to only an hour so not so bad.

She did some of her signature 'why are we waiting' moves in the lorry park and warm up which always gets a good gasp or ten from on lookers- once we were walking towards the start box she was the consummate professional and patiently waited for the countdown. Once she was off, she was off and I was just there for a passenger ride.

I must have backed off the wall slightly as she took a look, but still went. I rode like a sack of shi*t to it and over it so I am surprised she went but was very grateful for her honesty. Apart from that, she made it so much fun and we went clear.

Massive pats and home for the clever big mare. Wish I'd been brave enough to do this 4 years ago when I first bought her.

Results were posted just as we turned into the yard, and she'd only gone and won her class. I am still buzzing and can't wait until the next one- she just came to life and it was the most amazing feeling.

No pro pics yet but here's a finish pic and a couple of videos.

Here is my sack of rubbish riding to the wall. I did have a good support crowd to encourage me over it as I'd threatened to leave it out ;)

Jenni_ - what a beautiful place!

I forgot to do a plans post so straight to the update post ;) Managed to do a bit with both Chilli and Danny this weekend. Hacked them both around the village at the end of the week - Chilli was quite 'looky' for the first time but borrowed a short stick to keep him straight and he got over himself. Then Saturday had a great schooling session on Danny, his collected trot felt like it was starting to get some cadence and the half-passes feel well-established. I've entered a Medium class HC (just M69) next weekend so I can see how he fares at that level before he's sold!

Then I did my second solo 'hack' on Chilli, up to the top field where there's now an arena set up. After a little look at the white boards he was fab - happy to trot around the big field and ignored cars / bikes / noise from the nearby cattle grid. Did our first canters of this year too for a few strides with no dramas.

Other than that, had my bro and his wife to stay and friends over for a bbq paella on Sunday so felt pretty tired when getting up for work today!!

That has to be worthy of ' the post of the week' . Great supporters there and the back drop on the first photo is stunning. Well done

I had a pole work lesson on saturday which was dull as ditch water. I usually enjoy poles, but it was a new instructor and the only instruction was go that way, then go that way,
Hope everyone else had a fab weekend

I went out out! on the big pony, doing grown up things!!!

We went of a 12 mile fun ride. It was great fun even though the sea mist was really thick and we could only see glimpses of the beautiful views. We came across a herd of cows blocking the path so a friend turned into a cow girl and moved them all on while our dramatic welshies stood eyes on stalks.

And he loaded at both ends!!! With a little help of a feed bucket and quick thinking ramp lifters lol.

Tiny Taliban spent the day helping OH do some maintenance on the lorry. Who knew a yearling colt could be so helpful changing lightbulbs and removing stickers. I've been told he ran off with spectacles on more than one ocassion. Everytime the ramp was down he was in there. He's now worked out how to walk down the ramp instead of leaping from the top.

Isn't it nice to finally be out and about? Well done to all that managed an outing this weekend - I'm looking for the next one now!
