Got a bit of a quandry going on. I have 2 horses available to me and they are as different as you can get.

The horse I ultimately buy must SJ well to at least 1.10m and tolerate days off as I have children at home who are unpredictable! I also want to hunt.

The Facts....

Horse 1.

8yo. Extensively jumped up to 1.10m with an amateur. Very sweet natured but lacking flatwork. This horse has never hunted but I do not think it would be a problem given it's temp. I really enjoyed riding this horse even though it has countless faults and needs intensive schooling. Cheap.

Horse 2.

11yo. Has done nothing but hunt for the last few years, and by a man. Has taken weeks to get said horse off it's head as it has been "hauled around". Only SJed as a 5 year old and has 4 DCs at BN from then. Won 54BD points before it went off to be hunted, including points gained at Elem. Is being sold because it injured splint bone in November and was off hunting, owner bought another to hunt and when this one came sound had to make a decision which to offload and this one was easier to sell on than the other he owns. Got socking great splints on both front legs. Almost didn't get on it as I thought it would be rather sharp from the way it was going with the rider (rushing in trot and spooky) but this may be because she had spurs on. The person that has been schooling it is a VERY VERY good rider and I think this horse needs it's brain constantly active. However I found it easy to ride. More expensive.

In no particular order... (err don't crit the riding, especially of the grey, it was sooo hot and I just rode like an idiot

Just look at the horses)

ETS: Am uploading clip of them both trotting to give more of an idea - it will be further down the thread once it has finally uploaded!

Personally I prefer the grey ...
Also prefer the sound of Horse 1 for what I assume you want ?
I may be very very wrong tho

I chose the dun as I think its a nicer stamp of horse all round. The grey looks like he would look after you though but looks quite stiff in general, surprised its got all those BD points.

Am not saying whether the descriptions are in the same order as the horses

I prefer the dun. Looks a little less polished (if that makes sense) mabye some grid work and schooling would help. But looks very sweet and willing. The grey is nice too but doesn't quite look right. Do u also notice how it flicks its ear back when jumping? and doesn't quite have the enthusiastic expression of the dun. I also love the duns scope. They grey may be more steady hunting though. depends what you like in a horse really. Just my opinion.

I prefer the sound of the first horse.

The dun has got the better more scopey jump but it looks quite a big horse to get together and I imagine could be strong hunting.

The grey has a very flat hind quarter and not an impressive jump howeve it appears very genuine and pretty careful. It also looks far more like a ladies hunter. I think this would be my preference out of the 2.

Obviously would like a better look at both but from the videos...........the grey every time!

The dun looks a nice natured all rounder but the grey looks to have more scope, better looking and a more educated ride.

Which did you prefer to ride?

I prefer the way grey jumps, although it looks a bit sticky in front of the fences. The dun looks like it finds jumping quite easy and fun, but personallly I don't like the way it jumps with its head in the air.
The dun does look quite fun though

I prefer the sound of Horse 1 for what you want.

I am a sucker for a Dun but I didn't vote for him purely in that basis! Dun looks green but a very nice stamp, makes a nice shape over a fence and looks quite scopy. The grey does not do lot for me, very flat over the back and does not make a good shape over a fence - I actually watched it 3 times as I could not quite make put what was going on behind over a fence, looked quite stiff but I did wonder if he had not been "fiddled with" (if you know what I mean) to make him tidier behind as he looked to be flicking out behind over some fences.

Ultimately which did you feel happier on?

Agree the dun looks like more fun but could be wrong seems like he will need quite a bit of work to balance himself a bit. Whereas the grey needs to come up off its forehand but when he gets to the fence makes quite a nice shape. Seems like the grey may have more scope in the end but really depends what you want to do, both look like they could do the job for you but will require slightly different routes. Only worry would be whichever the 11 year old is will he even with lots of schooling come right enough for you? Wouldn't worry about the splints - but would get x-rays.

Don't usually post advice so feel free to ignore.

I prefer the dun, I really don't like the grey's back at all. You also seemed at home on the dun and his size suited you better (to me). I can see him being a very good hunter, lots of substance and looks more likely to stand up to a year round working life while the grey looks a bit lightweight in that direction. Purely personal thoughts but I was used to working with horses like the dun so perhaps that has swayed me, I don't know.
They're both nice horses to choose from though.

How much work do you want to put in to these horses?? I am no expert, but I wouldnt say either of them are fantastic to be completely honest.

I didnt feel either were jumping particularily tidily, but if these are your only 2 options, I think I would rather the dun as he did seem slightly more enthusiastic about it all.

I personally prefer the description of Horse 1.

I love the look of the dun. He seems to have a really nice jump to him and makes a nice shape over the jump. Yes, he does need quite a bit of work but he looks so much fun!

Something I don't like about grey's bum, just looks very flat over the loins/croup. But he/she looks to be riding/jumping a bit flat anyway which probably makes it look a little more obvious but I get the impression that could be tidied up maybe?

Oh...but I do like the saying 'you never get a bad dun'...

To showjump seriously 1.10m plus I prpbably wouldn't buy either. That said to make a full assessment I would like to see them over a bigger fence, a parallel, and through a combination / related distance.

Of the 2, I would go for the dun especially if this is horse No 1 ie 8 years old. He is better in front and looks as if he could adjust his stride a bit more.

The grey looks a nice enough horse, but very long and on the shoulder. It will be a fair while before he will be coming from a parallel to some planks on a related distance! He looks difficult to keep together, and if he is horse no 2 ie 11 years old then I wouldn't be taking this on a serious competition prospect.

Have to admit, the grey looks a different horse in that second clip but I do still prefer the dun and I also feel that the grey is under-horsing you whereas the dun, size-wise, looks just right - to me anyway!

Both look nice but as soon as I saw the dun I thought 'that's the one'. Has a much better jump, much cleaner jump certainly and looks honest and an athletic type.

If you choose the grey I can see why, looks like a school master, but I personally think it looks like it's been round the clock a bit and I don't think it has the potential of the dun.

But then, what is potential eh?!!

For me, it's a dun thang!

Based on both vids for each horse, it would be the dun for me. Obviously needs some schooling but more supple (grey one looks really stiff both over the jumps and on the flat)

The jumping vid of the dun is quite far away but looks like he does jump. Wasn't impressed by the grey who is never round over the jumps.
Agree with Kanter that the jumps are a bit small to get a good sense of scope an true jumping abilities though.

Weezy, it's hard to give an opinion solely based on vids provided, more just an impression

Prefer description 1, prefer video of dun.

The grey does look reasonably stiff and doesn't seem to naturally round nicely over the jumps even though he aproaches in an outline which is either lack of schooling or maybe lack of scope. He doesn't give the jumps any air room!

Good luck with choice!
