I do sympathise with you wheezy... The grey looks lovely nice allrounder, but it doesnt shout out showjumper to me, bide your time if your not sure and think about what you really want to achieve.
I'm sure you have thought about it already but are either of them better than the mare you have currently? Have they more scope, better temperament etc?
I certainly don't wish to sound critical at all, but you have changed horses a few times over the last few years, there was the chestnut with a white patch, a grey, another grey (?) you imported, your current bay mare.
Are you sure what you're looking for is out there? Perhaps it is a combination of all the horses you have had and can't be found in one - if you see what I mean!
Don't rush into anything - there are plenty out there and 'they' keep telling us it's a buyer's market!
In all seriousness Lou if you want a sit on something with untapped scope (because i'm a big wuss) and decent flatwork in the meantime you know where Le Gov is.
Fact is I am chasing a replacement for my horse of a lifetime and no, that doesn't exist and I am slowly beginning to understand that. In 4 years I have had 6 horses...
1) Stan, 4yo BWB, super horse, shame he dropped dead in the field
2) Zante, bought on a whim quickly to replace Stan. Hunted her and then her SJing went out of the window, was also rather hairy to jump as overjumped everything - she was PXed for Splodge - have since found out that she has been retired as she went a bit squiffy and had a suspected brain tumour.
3) Splodge - Loved him, cool dude, but did get a bit uppity when asked more questions. I went home for Christmas and fell in love with an Andy stallion and imported him here. Realised I couldn't have 2 so sent Splodge to a YR to sell. Was found to have back issues and sold to a fantastic RC home where he is thriving as there are not many questions being asked.
4) Chico the Andy - sold on as too small and also wasn't going to jump - in a home for life being hacked and dressaged.
5) Porridge - on paper the perfect horse and for many people would be the perfect horse. I have a lot of fun with her but she is never going to have a competitive head on her to jump the tracks I want to jump. We also clash on the flat. She is not forward going enough for me, I am not a kicker. She is a brilliant hunter/hack/fun ride horse, will do a very decent dressage test with a better flat rider than me and jumps RC classes fine - tis giving me knots in my stomach selling her and if I could just put a rocket up her arse then I wouldn't sell her.
6) Flops - am enjoying being an owner with this one ATM
Thing is, like all things in life, you have £1 to spend and everything you want is £5! I want a class horse for less than £7k and I cannot find it. It has to be a big 16.2hh or over and it cannot be highly strung, it MUST tolerate days off. MUST hack alone as I hack to my school and it MUST have competed as this was the downfall with P, took me a while to stop her getting so stage struck when out. I know what I want, believe me, but maybe I just look in the wrong places?!
Sorry for being not up to speed, but what was wrong with your young grey mare? I seem to remember that the person schooling her on couldn't continue to do so. From the videos you posted, she looked quiet enough. Could you keep her & bring her on or have you sold her?
I agree with Catembi why not bring on Flops?
Really wouldn't buy a horse that has a problem striking off on one leg and might be hard to sell on because of this.
It is great fun bringing on a youngster and they don't need too much work as they get tired easily
The grey would better suit you and could have a lot more scope when schooled up correctly. The Dun is a nice RC type but I doubt it would go much further.
I do think the grey would need a lot of flatwork to really bring out the potential though and do you really wnat to do that again?
Its difficult because you are trying to find a decent comp horse to SJ but also something that is sane and will hack alone and hunt etc, which there arent many off, but they are out there im sure!
Have you thought about going to ireland or something, think you need a nice irish X horse they SJ well to a decent enough height and will of course hack and hunt
Don't like either. Grey while a nice type really doesn't move well enough for what you want (athleticism, scope etc). Dun doesn't do much for me either and certainly not for what you want.
Cat & Cart - re: Flops...She is doing very well with Boss ATM and I am happy being an owner. I want to be out next week jumping a decent track and if I end up with a youngster alongside a more established horse then cool, but I am chomping at the bit to be out competing NOW.

You are bang on the money about how hard it is to find what I want and yes I am considering Ireland as a possible way forward!
I would keep looking then if you can't decide. You could always call Emma who I bought Corroy from she will defo find you something. Maybe worth a call at least. She's always going over to Ireland.
I have discounted the dun. Gut instinct and all that. I posted this more for people to put me off the grey as I am rather taken by her but my track record is so rubbish
You are prob a better rider than me so this may be irrelevant, but...
Just before Cat got ill, we were storming round NC & done our 1st 1 m 15, & in lessons were doing tracks of up to 1 m 25 (OMG, can't believe I was *ever* doing that) in prep for foxes. After he died, I bought Adrian to be a Cat Mark 2. Looks the same, rides the same but without the spook, had done a couple of BNs & a disco.
As I bought him on purpose to be very similar to Cat, I thought I'd just hop on & carry on more or less where I'd left off. I.e. a couple of BNs, then a disco & then onwards. However, it's taken a LOT longer than I thought to form a partnership with a new horse, & we even had to drop back to unaff for a couple of months to get going.
I've always been a 1 horse owner though so I'm rubbish at riding strange horses. The pro's make it look very easy to leap on a strange horse & get it going right away, so you'll prob be fine.
All I was thinking is that your 'bringing on' time with Flops could double up as your 'getting to know a strange horse' time...
I think def don't get the dun - if you like it less than the grey then there is no point really, and is not really what you want.
You know my thoughts on the grey obviously. Only you can say if she gives you that magical right feeling, and if she does, then you should get her. She has vetted okay for you, and I do think she would probably do what you want. My only reservations really is that I think she would really need a lot of flatwork to cope with decent affiliated courses, and she does look to me like she lacks power - though this may come with schooling. From what I see on the video, I personally think you could get a better horse for your money, however at the end of the day, if you love riding her, then get her! That is what is most important.
I really like the look of Tommy VI on that website, has he been sold? He looks ideal!
Tommy was the horse I wanted with all my heart. Unfortunately he got a hoof abcess which then took hold under his frog and is off work and in Southampton being treated by Dr Green
Haven't read any other posts as didn't want to influence my response! I prefer the dun, you looked more at home on him and just made a better picture, he looked more happier and more at home with his job than the grey who looked 'gangly' and very hard to hold together and for me he also lacked the honest outlook of the dun.
Also dun is the new black!!!
If oyu like it, go for it! Even if others think it is not the horse for you, you know it better than us. As long as hte horse is capable of what you want to do and there is no problem, go for it!!
