2026 Foals

Had a bit of a panic tonight , my daughter spotted that Aria wasn’t right . On her own head down circling and not eating . Que me legging it over to the field , I shouted her and she came galloping over and whinnying . See she’s fine I said , then I noticed she was frothing at the mouth . Got her in , noticed she was swollen at the side of her mouth and couldn’t eat and temp normal . Emergency call to the vet . Vet very confused at first. So she treated her with pain killer and anti inflammatory . Within 10mins , swelling gone down and she’s eating and totally normal . Highly likely it’s a bee/ wasp sting .
Other than that both mares are good , we are at day 160 & 153

We had a 67 day scan a while ago and although it showed a definitely pregnant uterus, baby had dropped below the pelvic brim so couldn't see it. After all the trouble I had last year and the many attempts this year I won’t get too excited until it’s actually here but all looking good otherwise and we are on day 119 🤞
We had a similar disappearing act at the last scan, but her cervix is still tightly closed and all other signs say things are going well so im not worrying. Someone really needs to tell her she isn't eating for 2 yet though because she is constantly starving!

Oh no! Bet that was scary! Hope its all resolved now though will no ill effects going forwards.

How’s everyone’s mares getting on ?
Our girls are fat and happy , and we can now see foal movement . Love this bit , where the movements get stronger every week ❤️

Hi, mare was covered back in may. Ive had three scans between 20 50 days. Two different vet practices and they both said empty. Mare never came back into season. Now im convinced theres a foal cooking away in her, what do you guys think of this movement? Ive got another scan booked for monday, she will be 222 days

@Asha I dont know why but I only just got a notification for your post 🙈
All good for us. 175 days pregnant (almost 6 months) scan done at 160. Foal was still over the pelvic rim but was just about spotted (with a lot of effort from out vet!) So we are happy everything is progressing well.
I think we are a bit behind you as Violet isn't due to foal until 1st June. I am seeing that funny triangular buldge on once side or the other, but nothing I can say for sure is foal movement yet (could be, but could also be gas!)
Violet has decided she is starting, like all the time (even when she already has hay) and has taken a dislike to having her stomach brush - which is new.
Hope all is still going well for you :)

@jadejs It looks like you are trying to get a video to post, but nothing has loaded.
Cant speak for your 20 day scan, but at 50 days a pregnancy can be easily missed. My very definitely pregnant mare had a scan around 50 days after she got cellulitis from an abcess in her hoof wall which was then followed by some odd contraction of the muscles around her belly. She was scanned to check all was OK, but they couldn't find the embryo that had been visible 2 weeks before.
The vet told me her cervix was still tightly closed so no abortion had occurred. He checked again 2 weeks later, the contractions had stopped, there was still no visible foal on scan, but again the cervix was closed.
We scanned her again at about 160 days and spotted a healthy fetus growing as it should be.
Depending on the timing, things can get missed.

Hard to say really. My mare had these odd contraction things in the same area earlier on in pregnancy, they looked very similar to that but were nothingto do with pregnancy, but equally it could be foal movement. I'd ask your vet to scan her to be sure.
Shes being scanned again on monday, the movement usually only happens on one side. Ive tried convincing myself that it was gut movement for a few weeks but its getting more exuberant the further along we get. She will be due at the end of April if she is in foal but I guess I will find out either way on monday 😅

Fingers crossed for you 🤞🤞🤞
She definitely wouldn't be the first one that was missed on a scan! Lol
