Thought I was due a Purdey puppy photo dump update as I only seem to post pics of her in the photo thread in club house.

6 months old 💗 her wirey-ness has arrived in abundance (some of her siblings still look completely short haired)! The sweetest, funniest girl who just wants to please. We want to start gundog training soon if we can find anyone local!

Thank you very much! We are Worcester but happy to travel within reason ☺️
Look up Kimberley Gundogs. They do 2 day training courses and they are great, kind positive training and immediately see where you are going wrong.
You can stay at local pubs, we are often full of pointy dogs at the one I work at.
Elliebeast knows them anyway, and of course she might know someone closer to you.

Worcester gundog society have a great reputation and HPR specialist training 😊 https://www.worcsgundogsociety.org/hprs-2

The Kimberley’s in Devon are fab

As is Howard Kirby and his team at mullenscote gundogs, they do training courses too 😊

Very exciting! There’s nothing better than helping them to use their bodies and minds for the job they were created for 😍

9 months old! She still loves to learn and is an absolute angel 99% of the time (unless she’s digging up daddy’s garden in search of pebbles to bring into the house 🤣). Her favourite thing is when we all go for walks in a new place which is lovely now that she can go for longer. Loves to retrieve anything and everything, whether that be a dummy, my slippers from under the coffee table or the oven gloves. Has only caught one frog in the garden so far and she would neither confirm nor deny whether it was already dead when she found it…. Maybe we’ll give her the benefit of the doubt 😉

That face😍😍
See I love the whole retrieving thing, until you are sitting round the kitchen table with friends, enjoying a nice meal, and the worlds most embarrassing dog brings in a pair of knickers and dumps them in a lap......and not even in my lap, and not even a sexy pair of knickers, but an aging pair of greying granny Bridget Jones ones
You have been warned🤣🤣

How is she today @Love ?
Thank you for thinking of us @Clodagh. Vets appt. was at 4pm yesterday and found she had a slight temperature but other than that (and acting very lethargic/sad) couldn't find anything immediately wrong with her. Gave her an anti inflammatory jab and within an hour back at home she had perked right up, wolfed down her breakfast that she had left that morning and was looking for more! (She's not normally particularly foody). This morning back to her usual puppy self which is a huge relief.

We may never know but I'm suspicious of the wormer (Droncit for tape) we gave her on Sunday night. Trying to think back to when she last had it and think she was a bit quiet then and this was a much bigger dose. Explained it all to a friend at the yard this morning and she mentioned that her old terrier also reacted badly to Droncit. Vet seemed to think it was too slow to be that (wormed sun night and only started to be off colour Tuesday morning). Could it be related?

I'm just happy she is back to her usual self and feeling better (even if we are £150 lighter in the pocket now 🤣 )

Back at the vets today as back to how she was earlier in the week. High temperature and stiff/painful neck. Doesn’t want to pick anything up off the floor but will still take food from your hand. Intermittently a bit shaky and wobbly. Vets worried about SRMA 😢 Taken bloods and given her metacam injection and told us to give her paracetamol this evening. Want her back in first thing for a recheck. Praying it’s not but sadly everything fits a bit too well.

Found the thread on here from last year which makes it sound like prognosis is quite good?

Oh I hope not. Wasn’t that what @palo1 ’s dog had? He is fine now.
Yes, my Irish terrier had SRMA and was really unwell: he was rushed to intensive care at a vet hospital 2.5 hours from home. Really frightening but he recovered completely thanks to quick diagnosis and great treatment. He has not relapsed a few years later and no side effects either. It is a horrible illness though. Hope poor dog is soon feeling much better.

ETA: Here is my original thread. https://forums.horseandhound.co.uk/threads/srma-meningitis.784287/

Thank you everyone. Vets wanted to see her first thing for a recheck. She seems bright enough but no real change either way. Her temperature is still up although not quite as high as yesterday. Just a waiting game now for the bloods which is agony. I was working this morning and when I got home she rushed to see me but bumped her head into my knee and really yelped so she’s still sore 😢

She was very brave having her bloods done yesterday although wasn’t impressed with her blue bandage

Oh she does look sad. Is there nothing can be done until blood confirmation?
Sadly not. Although Srma is high on their list there is apparently a number of other things it could be so they need to see them really. I asked if we could start steroids now anyway before the bloods come back but she would need to be clear of metacam for 48hrs. They said she’s not bad enough to risk giving giving them sooner which I guess is a good sign. Paracetamol seems to be keeping her temperature at bay slightly

Bloods are back - very mild and non-specific. CRP up slightly but not dramatically and certainly not at the levels expected for it to be something auto-immune. WBC very slightly up but again not dramatically, same with liver enzymes but said the latter is quite commonly seen in growing pups anyway. Back in at 3.30 with next step most likely X-rays

In a drastic turn of events Purdey is all of a sudden completely back to normal?!!??

Yesterday lunchtime she started to pick up but didn’t want to get too ahead of ourselves just in case. By the evening she was charging around the coffee table with her snail toy (obviously trying to use up her weeks worth of stored energy 🙈). This morning she is bouncing off the walls and feeling very pleased with herself. Not even a hint of stiffness or soreness. She’s currently in the garden refusing to come back inside for Joel which I’m trying not to laugh at 🤣

I’m absolutely astounded. I have a feeling we are never going to find out what this was… going to give the vets a call today to explain but they did say they were happy to cancel her X-rays if we felt they weren’t needed. If this continues then I think we will absolutely be fine.

On Saturday night she was that bad I thought we were going to lose her. Talk about a rollercoaster of emotions!!!
