In a drastic turn of events Purdey is all of a sudden completely back to normal?!!??

Yesterday lunchtime she started to pick up but didn’t want to get too ahead of ourselves just in case. By the evening she was charging around the coffee table with her snail toy (obviously trying to use up her weeks worth of stored energy 🙈). This morning she is bouncing off the walls and feeling very pleased with herself. Not even a hint of stiffness or soreness. She’s currently in the garden refusing to come back inside for Joel which I’m trying not to laugh at 🤣

I’m absolutely astounded. I have a feeling we are never going to find out what this was… going to give the vets a call today to explain but they did say they were happy to cancel her X-rays if we felt they weren’t needed. If this continues then I think we will absolutely be fine.

Talk about a rollercoaster of emotions!!!
That’s brilliant news. Dogs… who’d have them!

Just another little update -

The miraculous recovery has continued and it’s like the past week never happened. Vets okayed letting her off lead again for a short time which she thoroughly enjoyed this morning. Relieved is not the word! Cautiously hoping this continues and is the end of whatever that was 💕

Also thank you to those who gave advice, support and PMs. Such a lovely community we have here x

We have our first training session tomorrow with Worcestershire gundog society! We finally managed to get onto a 4 week course for HPR pups. Really looking forward to it although a tiny bit nervous too. She’s such a good girl although can get a bit over excited when we first go to new places so hoping we can help her hold it together - I want her to do herself justice and show how great she really is. We’ve been working on patience whenever we go out so hopefully that will pay off. Once she is settled her focus is amazing. Plan to get there a bit early to settle her. Fingers crossed for a great first day! 🤞🏼

That’s great news. I hope you click with the trainer and enjoy yourselves. We’ll need a full report.
I’ve got a session with Steve Kimberley at the end of the month, with Scout.

Oh I'm so proud of my girl! All I wanted was to go, have fun and not be the embarrassment of the group and we certainly achieved that. There are 4 sessions in total and are with Paul Brant.

There was loads going on and some big noisy dogs in the group (I've never met a Slovakian rough haired pointer before but wow was he a big lad... and loud) but she made friends with a lovely little 6 month old GWP and the other owners were all so lovely and welcoming. This session was more about Paul assessing where everyone is at before the next ones so each dog was doing variations of the same exercise depending on their experience. He tested their steadiness with the lure and flirt pole and Purdey did not move a muscle each time (long may that last please 🤣) even though she was very obviously intrigued. We got her doing the most beautiful points and even flushed some live game (we were aiming for sit to flush here but it made her jump so she actually ran back to us and sat on Mr. L's feet instead.. I'm sure we'll get there bless her 🤣). She was a bit wary of the cap gun that he was using with some of the older dogs but took it all in her stride and we'll just take it at her pace. For the very last exercise we tried her with a little retrieve but I think she had fizzled over by this point and just looked at us very confused - I'm not bothered by this in the slightest as she is retrieving very enthusiastically at home. If it hadn't been the last exercise anyway we would have called it a day with her and just watched the rest. Between her goes she sat perfectly with the rest of the line and waited her turn so patiently - no whinging or bouncing around.

Really looking forward to next week!

Just wanted to share this of me and my girl at last weeks gundog session (her 2nd) - she was like a different dog this time! Keen as mustard, did some beautiful hunting and some nice easy retrieves (just need to work on curtailing the occasional show boating she likes to do instead of a delivery 🤣 but Paul said she’s still very “puppy” for her age and it will all come with time - he’s just happy that she’s so enthusiastic). She watched every single other dog when it was their go and was taking it all in. So chuffed with her. And not bothered one bit by the shot this week! Im working on Sunday so Mr L will be going solo with her but looking forward to hearing how they get on

Me bad, I reacted but didn’t reply. That sounds amazing, and really positive, what a good dog.
My main interaction with GWP’s is my BIL’s, who run riot, knock people over, hunt deer incessantly, are dog aggressive and climb on the table to steal food while you eat so my attitude to the breed is blighted, to say the least!
I will enjoy following her training and one day expect a photo of her pointing at game. 🥰

She is stunning and is trying to get me over my ‘fear’ of GWP’s which is caused by a relations two. 😄
We have both said that in a few years (not yet) we would love to have another. The problem is she’s been so so good that we’re terrified the next one will be an absolute horror in comparison 🤣

Would love to think it’s purely down to our remarkable training but we definitely got lucky with her! 😉

Relations don’t ‘do’ training and are quite chilled about watching theirs jump the fence and run around in next doors sheep. They don’t chase them, so that’s ok.
