hi all,

firstly, thank you all soo very much for all your kind words. i'm blown away bythe kindness of everyone.

my t'interweb at home is down due to disagreement with BT... so nipping onto a friend's computer to update. i can get onto HHO on my mobile, but can't seem to post anything (stupid blackberry - sorry happyhack...)

vet just been out and re-xrayed. news isn't great.

Raff has a line fracture (not spiral as hoped) to the very top of his right radius. It's a result of a kick in the field (we originally thought he'd slipped, but today there was evidence of kick).

he's perky in himself and not stressing (yet). as long as he can munch on his (very soaked) hay, he seems fine.

Vet now thinks he could spend 5months in box rest, with large proportion of that crosstied. So our main objectives are now to manage the situation and avoid worsening the fracture and prevent laminitis (cos all his weight is now on his other leg). We're bedding him deep with wood pellets, bandaging the other leg and managing his feed.

i'm trying to stay positive, but struggling a bit. anyone that has read any of my posts will know he is my absolute saviour. i would have given up a long long time ago if it hadn't been for him. (positives = it's not affecting the joint, and he's a very laid back horse who is better than most at standing in the stable for a long time...)

oh, and my insurance ran out on the 5th - because they 'hadn't received' my signed paperwork... g r u m b l e. so financially, i am not sure how we'll manage... anyone want to buy Katie? my lovely lorry?

thank you all again.

Sorry to hear the news isn't what you were hoping. As you say he is a very laid back chap so hopefully he will cope well with the boxrest.

Sending <<<vibes>>> for him and ((hugs)) for you too

QR - oh Poppy im so sorry to read this,i cannot imagine how you must be feeling!

Im sending lots of healing vibes your way, Raff is a darling and didnt deserve this :( My friends horse broke his leg (line fracture of the cannonbone so slightly different) when he jumped out of the menage. He was crosstied and hada robert jones splint for around 5 months, that was 4 yearsago, yesterday he won two dressage testson scoresjust under 70%.

Keep positive hun, you might be infront of the firing line but you havent been shot,a quotefrom my auntie when i thought things were going pear shapped.

xx

Hi, I'm new to the forum and was motivated to join by reading your original post about poor old Raff, which really brought a lump to my throat. SO sorry the news wasn't better :( - I do hope everything works out for you; sounds like at least you have his temperament on your side, I know with my mare 5 months box rest would prob result in her breaking the other leg, let alone the stable walls
Anyway do try to stay positive - a JA pony on my last yard broke his hock and his radius (separate occasions!) and is still going strong so they can rehabilitate, like I said so much depends on temperament and sounds like you've got saint on your hands ;)
GOOD LUCK! xxx

 What a surprise - there is a special place in Hell reserved for those insurance minions of the antiChrist :D

Details please re the lorry!!! Looking at the mo as my mare doesn't like loding in my ancient old box and can't say I blame her as its the same age as I am

Positive thought for Raff and your family....life is cruel at times. Your love for him leaps of the page and Im sure this is what will help you and Raff win the battle.

Your nerves must be shot, especially when you love something SO much. He will have the very best care from you and everything crossed that the outcome is good. as Im sure it will be. keep us updated we are all rooting for you.

Feel so sorry for both Raff and you :( glad he is being placid, long may it continue.
Fingers crossed for his quick recovery! xx

Hugs hun!! All I can say is that the box rest will fly by - we did 9 months in total for Henry with his collateral ligaments and it really made us bond - he is like a dog now, follows me everywhere!! Honestly, he has been turned out for about 3 weeks now and I can't even remember the hard slog of the previous 9 months. Keep us posted and you might want to invest in a mirror as although Henry was as horizontal as a plank of wood, he liked looking at himself!!

I am so sorry to hear of the not so good news. On the bright side though, at least medicine has moved on, and the vets are giving him a chance! Years ago a broken leg would mean curtains!

I have all my fingers, toes, eyes crossed, and keep us updated!!

{{{{ HEALING VIBES }}}} for you all!! xx

Fingers crossed and sending loads of vibes to Raff. If he is calm on box rest that is half the battle imo, our mare had to be cross tied for 2 months and spent all that time on ever increasing doses of ACP, but if she can do it anyone can.

The worse Sh!t always happens to the nicest people, neither you nor Raff deserve this :(

Stay strong and think positive, we'll all be keeping our fingers, paws and hooves crossed here!

Lots of healing vibes for Raff and support vibes for you, stay positive I'm sure he will be fine.

I'd be having a big grumble at insurers......surely they ALL just automatically renew don't they!?

xx

Ditto all of this :( after that crazy mare nearly doing you in you found such a nice horse, a real soulmate. Everything crossed for you, let me know if there is anything I can do - am a very good tea drinker and sympathiser!

BIGGEST hugs xxxx

Been following your updates- got my fingers crossed for you! Just keep on thinking positive and you'll both pull through, just thank everything that he's standing so well! What a horrible accident though :( xxxxxx

((((((((((((hugs))))))))))) to you. Sorry the news isn't as good as you hoped it would be.
Still got everything crossed for Raff. He's one tough cookie.

Only just seen this -poor Raff - hope he continues to take his box rest well and plays the model patient.

I'm only up the road if you need anything

Really sorry to read this - cant believe it was only a couple of weeks ago when I was watching you ride in the arena and you looked like such a great team.

He is such a sweet pony, really hoping he heals quickly.

sorry to hear this and big hugs to you both.i agree temperament on box rest is half the battle.take each day at a time and dont think too far ahead.he is as lucky to have you as you are to have him.take care of yourself i am sure you are emotionally drained.
