As some very supportive HHOers know we purchased a little welsh baby last week. He's 8months old 13hh ish on the stick. He's gentle and is such a little sweetheart.

Here's a few photos. I'll update with details later

So a bit of info on little Reggie.

He came from a friend of a friend who bought him as a companion for another pony and then a couple of weeks later decided they should be sensible and save for a house. So put both ponies up for sale. The first sold easily but Reggie would of been left alone in a paddock with no company or other ponies in sight. i tried to help sell him but it seems everyone I know was selling rather than buying. So the day before his friend was due to go I put in a ridiculously cheeky offer which they accepted. So he was dropped of on the way to delivering his friend meaning he was never left on his own. We are his 5th home at only 8/9months so the poor little lad as been passed around a fair bit in the last 2/3months. We've spoken to his breeder who was very shocked he had moved from his first home and upset that he had moved around so much.
He quite riby/bony under all that fluff. He's been wormed and has the vet coming to do jabs and a quick teeth check this week. He has worked out the hard feed is yummy over the weekend, but when he arrived he really wasn't sure what it was. OH stood hand feeding him the first few evenings so some feed went in. He hasn't worked out that the hay isn't going to run out and is eating LOADS. He's on his own with ponies next to him and can chat/groom over the fence. This is mostly so he doesn't get pushed off feeds/hay etc until he is up to weight again, but also to introduce him to everyone slowly as B can be a bit of a tit.
Mum is 13.2 and dad is 15.3 so hoping he'll finish somewhere in the middle.

ETA - we are going to leave gelding until he has put some weight on and is a little stronger in himself. We've also increased his rug from a 100g to a 200g and 3 sizes bigger than the 1 he came in.

I think he's going to be a lovely lad. Happy to be groomed all over without any real fuss. OH had him in and out of the lorry and happily sharing his feed with the sheep (very important he gets on with the sheep apparently). Loading is apparently the OH forte and he is clearly a better horseman than I could ever be as I can't load B but he can get 2 baby ponies in the lorry with only use of a bucket of feed.
Farrier tomorrow who is definitely going to take the mick out of me for buying another just as the cost of everything goes up.

well hasn't Reggie landed on his hooves! He's very sweet and sounds like he'll make a lovely little horse. Well done!

Thank you.

Talking of hooves. He has a horizontal crack in his front foot. It looks like some kind of old trauma from the coronet band that is growing out. I don't think its anything to worry overly about but might cause an issue as it gets closer to his toe. He also have a few ridges and his feet seem to bulge slightly part way down. I will get some before and after photos when the farrier is here tomorrow for all the 'feet' people on here. will be interesting to hear peoples views. I don't think there is anything to overly worry over.

Farrier visit yesterday. He likes Reggie. He picked all 4 feet and checked them. Happy he doesn't need trimming this time, but will continue to check when he visits the rest or if popping in to visit OH (farrier now OH best mate - long story). He suggested Reggie's feet show some malnourishment and that growth should be further on for his age. He still has a lot of foal toe, which is a lot easier to see now his feet are cleaner. The horizontal crack is likely to be a minor injury to his coronet as a foal with is still growing out. This sits right on the line between baby foot and adult horn (if that's the right word) he was very well behaved for farrier so all a nice positive experience for him.

Just caught up on this - I am so glad you got him and he looks super. Reggie was my cousin's first mare's name, also a chestnut Welshie and with bags and bags of character.
