Thanks everyone. He's a really lovely 'person' to have around.
I'm probably being over critical of his confirmation. He's definitely going to be a late developer. Its probably because Robin has not really ever been out of proportion, never bum high just generally grown evenly. I dont think Reggies withers have caught up with is bum the whole time he's been here. He's known as the drag racer as he runs really really fast (you have to say that in a childish voice) and his rearend is always bigger than his front. Bless him.

My four year olds withers still haven’t caught up to his bum ?

he looks like he will be handy. If it’s any indication Faran was about 13hh at 8months and he’s 15.1hh roughly at the withers just now. His parents were barely 14hh (sire) and a 14.3hh (I think) ?

I feel like his neck as suddenly lengthened by about 6 inch's!

He came to us with the head of a shire, the neck of a small dog, the legs of a giraffe and the body of a tiny riding pony. He's no starting to look like 1 pony not an abstract imagine drawn by a child.

His mum is 13.2hh and built like a tank and dad was 15.3hh at 5yrs with still a lot of 'finishing' to do. so its anyone's guess where he'll end up. I'm praying he stays around 15hh as I'm only small. but he's 13.2 on the stick now at 14months so I think I'll be lucky if he does.

Faran was to make about 14.3hh which was fine for me as Kia was that height but no Faran’s decided that he wants me further from the ground than anticipated. I’m only small as well ??

He is looking really good now, my mare whose mum was 15hands and dad 16 hands carried on growing till she was 6. She was 13.3 at 15 months and I was worried she wouldn’t be big enough for me but she made 16 hands at 6..and she had a good start in life so I would imagine reggie could grow quite a bit more..

You'll be fine. Teach him to stand still and square next to a fence/ gate. Say "stand". If he moves, gently return to the required position, repeat the instruction until he is relaxed and doesn't move until you're aboard. Sit quietly for a few minutes. Praise, treat with scratches on withers. Move off calmly in walk. Do this until your verbal cue and your physical movements are inextricably paired in your horse's brain.
Keep it calm and consistent and it should work.

Rugs off in the sunshine at the weekend so tried to get some photos of Reggie (and Robin) bu they were both in full on hoover mode and heads didn't come off the ground for a second.
He's got some depth of body now. Excited to see what he's like next year.

Thank you for asking.

He's doing ok. He's had a bit of a knock on his stifle which swelled quite nicely with a lovely infected cut. After a very odd experiecne with a locom vet he had a course of antibiotics and a few days bute. Externally everything is healing well, but we are a little 'off' on that leg. I'm hoping its just the brusing from whatever caused the orginal injury, but we have the vet coming next week to geld him so we can check it more closely then. He's being very brave about the whole affair.

He's standing easily at 14hh now and thankfully growing into a nice looking pony. I'll get some photos for a proper update soon.

Second this. Very much my type, he’s lovely, fingers crossed for no long lasting issues with his leg

I'm sure its going to be fine, but I'm naturally a worrier. Plus the vet started off basically telling me I'd inconvenienced her by calling and it wasn't worth her coming out (swelling the size of an orange and snotty mucsle discharge from an injury on/close to a joint) to telling me he could end up with cellulitis or ulcers or colitis and asking me if we should xray. Never met such an incompetant vet - I have complained.

Thats bad I would have complained as well there have been quite a few threads on here about vets not wanting to come out when the horse clearly needs one, they are getting a bit like some GP's my friends baby was ill recently which she thought was a reaction to penicillin, she couldn't get an appointment doctor told her to call back the following day if he was still being sick!

She took him to A & E that day as he started to bring up blood turns out she was right it was the penicillin.

Oh glory be Pinkvboots, what on earth is going on with GPs not even following baby protocols.
dl, how awful re vet, good to hear you complained.
(goes off muttering about it never used to seem so obviously awful/incompetence rules the roost. Social media eh)

Sorry to hear about your friends little one. good that your friend went with her instinct.

I was going to chalk the vet visit up to experience and just not have her again, but same vet was sent to sedate for clipping and 45 mins later and a lot of upset pony still wasn't sedated and it was getting so dangerous that I called it and pony won't be clipped again this year. Pony was needle phobic, but now is pretty much terified of vets too. Luckily vet was only a locumb and has finished her time with our practise. I'm glad we had a bit of horse knowledge betwen us, it could of turned out very differently otherwise.
I've never really questioned a vet apart from the discussion about treatment, but it really makes you realise you shouldn't follow blindly even when far more qualified than you.
