I dont know if u can see that but i have a hairy GV horse that im hoping to hunt , he looks amazing with all his mane and tail etc but its such a pain!
He's rubbed half of his mane .. due to sweat ( its quite thick ) so im taking him hunting in October and im not sure what options to do about clipping etc.. pictures of your horses before and after clipping would be much appreciated.

- Leave him hairy
- Trace Clip leaving mane tail and feathers intact
- Completely Clipped and Hogged
- Full clip leaving mane and tail out but taking off feathers
- Full clip leaving feathers taking off mane

These^ are the options for my horse's clip... i expect it to be quite cold weather so im not sure but i have rugs and i think he will be doing alot of hunting work over the winter.. opinions on clipping and what u would do appriciated. :D sorry for it being so long ! also what months can u clip a horse ? x

I full clip my cob all year round but leave mane, tail and legs.

If he's trashed his mane already I'd be tempted to hog and start again. If you hog take feathers off as well.

I don't think feathers off with mane and tail left looks too bad but not the other way round IMHO ;)

Ps we can't access that content.

If he's rubbed his mane out too much to arab/running plait it, then definitely hog. Which means you'll want to do his feathers too, as *Vanner* says - IMO nothing looks stranger than a hogged cob with masses of feather! At least he can't get snagged in brambles, or end up dragging bits of tree round on his legs if you clip it all off.
I love a hogged/trimmed chunky sort. So much so I have 2 :D
Do it, come over to the dark side :D :D

Oh WOW he is gorgeous !!! that is one muzzle that needs kissing !

Against all my instincts, I would hog him for hunting  and then re-assess after the season ?

tell us what you decide x

But equally, don't worry too much about being 'correct' for hunting. If you haven't taken him before, and don't know how he'll take to it, just go cubbing clean and presentable, until you have more of an idea how often you'll be taking him. Our hunt didn't give 2 hoots when I took my mare with her fluffy mane unplaited, and now I know how much she adores it I plan to take her as often as possible, so she's had a buzz cut! Suits her too! :D

As much as it kills me to say it...if hunting is going to be a regular thing, I'd take everything off and hog. Too much to catch on things and get them more hot and sweaty than they need to be!

If not a regular thing...then just invest in mane bags to keep him clean in and go for a running plait.

Okay i think i will, though he's abit tubby atm... Im not sure how he's gonna be with his back legs but we'll find out, im sure it'll be easier for day to day riding anyway (: i will keep u all posted.. also pictures of your's before and after would be appriciated!

My hairy beast hunts with full mane and feather. His body is fully clipped, I just leave the legs on.
Reasonably tidy at the meet;

Not so clean after bombing through muddy water!

However, he only does a couple of meets. He's shown during the summer, so, needs all of his hair to remain as intact as possible.

So much easier to look after especially if hunting. Feathers get stuck in the mud and you can't see any injuries very easily.
I took this cob cubbing for the first time with full mane and feathers to see how she would be. She was a pro so the whole lot came off. Even though she isn't hunting any more she is still fully clipped as it is so much easier and she looks smarter.

This is one of my liveries, photographed at our old yard before we moved. He went from looking like a bog creature that most wouldn't take a second look at, to being absolutely stunning!
