No one jumping the gun today then?
What are we all up to over the bank holiday weekend?

Kira has a little trip to Summerhouse tomorrow (hopefully... still full of chest infection and trotwork is killing me so it might not happen!) AM 92 and M76.... weirdly we've got to do the advanced medium first which will be a challenge but hey ho. Anyone got an oxygen cylinder that I can borrow? Could strap it into an air jacket to be discreet?

Bit of arena hire on Sunday with friends from the yard. That's about it, annoyed but the fact that I can't really breathe is kind of putting me off being more ambitious! Millie is still on pen rest, or she should be... broke out yesterday so she's clearly feeling well!

Have fun all :)

My company is sponsoring a dressage champs class on Saturday so think I'll be there for the prize giving so depending what time that is I might just have time to squeeze in a beach ride in the morning or might just hack out near home.

Sunday I have a lesson with a new instructor I haven't been to before so that's exciting and nerve wracking in equal measure

Not sure about Monday yet - might do a bit of gridwork

Area Champs at Novice on Saturday for Pocholo and I. He's not really a Novice level horse and there are 34 in the class so I'm not holding much hope of qualifying, so we'll aim for an accurate test and see if we can manage a few steps of medium trot! Then we'll focus on Elementary :) (Although we do have to go back to Prelim for our semi-final...which will be odd!).

I had considered doing an 80cm ODE on Sunday but we've not managed any jumping practice so I'll probably just do a bit of hacking and schooling for the rest of the weekend. September is looking fairly busy, including our first hunting outing, so a bit of chill time will be welcome!

Good luck tomorrow MP! Enjoy your beach ride and lesson Wheels :)

I am taking one of the sick notes out to his first Elementary on Sunday.. no doubt having written this he will be lame when he comes in later!!

My weekend starts and finishes early this week - Friday! The Wee Coloured Job is up to Blair tomorrow for the NPS Scotland Finals that he has qualified for. Only 20 in the class. .. then it's back to work for the rest of the weekend!

Trying a horse for me tomorrow (what happened until waiting until spring?!), got a couple of event horse viewings lined up (yawn! So over horse shopping now). Hacking Saturday. Treborough with babies Sunday. Sleeping Monday.

Oh MP, is it that time already!
Nothing much planned this weekend, I'm in work on Monday anyway so just a standard weekend for me. I've got lots of preparing for winter type yard work to be getting on with so that will probably be it for me.

Am thinking of having next Wednesday off to have a nosey at brightwells malvern sale though :D

Good luck all competing. How did you get on with the titchy horses last weekend EKW?

Ooooooh yay I can join in! Not very exciting but we are going xc schooling on Monday to get a bit of practise on grass. Then packing for Hickstead ;)

Going to be brave, stop lurking and join in this time!
We have a dressage comp on Sunday, UA German novice equivalent... We did our first affiliated tests last week, and considering we could not get a canter transition 3 weeks ago I was quite pleased with him.
German system is a bit different in that the preliminary and novice tests are always done in groups of 3 or 4 horses together... So can get quite interesting if you get stuck behind a pony or the one in front of you starts pratting about 😀. We only got a 60% (6,0) but my instructor confirmed that they were quite stingy when she saw the vid 😀
I can post a video if anyone is interested in seeing how the Germans do it

Good luck to everyone off competing

Definately takes some getting used to! I am off for a jumping lesson now, report is done with video hopefully! Phone is about to die so will be back on a bit later

Going eventing Sunday for first time in 2.5yrs!!! Nerves kicking in already... V early start with close times so hopefully not too much time to worry about it. Eeek!

Good luck all competing. How did you get on with the titchy horses last weekend EKW?

We did good! The Wee Coloured Job was 3rd in his stallion class - behind 2 of the souths biggest winners as well as being the youngest in the class by at least 5 years! He also went on to win the trophy for the best Broken Coloured pony at the show. So very very happy with that! Rains was 5th in his in-hand class and 5th in his HOYS ridden class along with 2nd in the Veteran class. He goes to his new loan home this week. It will be strange not having him around. The mares on the other hand ... One decided that trotting properly was over rated and the other one stood perfectly in the line up but decided to make herself memorable in a class full of chestnuts by standing up on her back legs in front of the judge ... 4 times ... So neither of them got placed! Wee Ginger Witches lol!

Good luck all. Looking forward to hearing all about it. Taking daughter to Blair on Sunday.

Finally got a reply from the horse I made an offer on (they have balls of steel!) but they have only budged the smallest amount and I feel the horse is well over priced. I'm still considering what the best thing to do is about that one. Perhaps but a lottery ticket then I won't care :D. Not found anything down the back of any sofas in the meantime!!

Ooh exciting stuff hope everyone has fun with their outings etc. And v exciting for those viewing and buying horses.

Having hit a snag confidence wise with our jumping I've dropped right down to try and rediscover my brave pants and enjoy it. We're doing a 50 ODE tmrw. Feels a bit pathetic on my giant horse who can literally walk over them (we ended up doing a bit of that xc schooling there last week) but hey ho what can you do when you lose your bottle!

Only my second ode and blimey the timings are tight. Basically hop off after dressage tack up and straight into jumping. But it's all good experience.

Good luck Bernster, I'm sure you'll be fine! Try to enjoy it if you can (and if not...fake it til you make it!).

FW, that's frustrating :( Hopefully they drop a bit more.

Have fun DB!

Going to have a third and final attempt at an Area Festival. If we dont cope with this one then Im going to hang up my Area Festival boots and stick with small local venues. Absolutely no expectations this time. If shes not settled I wont even enter the ring. Were hoping to get there very early and walk around as close to the arena as possible, for as long as possible, so that she can acclimatise. No plan to do the area walks though as that is counter productive. When I do the arena walk, when I then go and do our test she says "aaaaargh, where have all my friends gone !!! " and has a panic. Also planning to do a longer warm up and use up some excess energy - Id almost rather have to kick her on in the test that have her running off with me. Not there for prizes at all - there to see IF we can complete an AF test ?? Tho im very much wishing it wasnt on a bank hol weekend, and the wrong side of the A303. Plan B is turn off the alarm when it goes off at 3.30am on Sunday and go back to sleep. We will see . . . . . . .

That's rubbish about the cob FW, maybe the sellers will be more willing to drop the price if he's not sold in the next month or so. Not that that's much use to you with another month of limited riding!

Good luck to all competing and I hope everyone else has fun.
I'm hoping to hack new girl out in company again, I took her out with another yesterday evening (first time she'd been ridden in 5 weeks as I was away) and she was hard work - very strong just walking on grass, trying to tank off if the other horse walked in front, and lots of jogging. I'm debating increasing the bitting slightly - she's currently in a hanging cheek mullen Myler - as I don't have the strength in my right knee, or right arm and hand!, to stop her if she properly bogs off.

Well we made it to Summerhouse (and back... that felt doubtful for a while! :D )

Probably the most stupid thing I've done for a good while, I am just a wheezy rattle on legs at the moment but I paid for late entries for Millie a few weeks ago, and then she injured herself, managed to get them transferred to today and I was DETERMINED not to waste 54 quids worth of entries!

The times I looked up when they were released on Wednesday were no longer the correct times :( god knows what happened but having checked and re-checked and triple checked because it seemed weird to do the AM before the medium... when we arrived with 50 mins to get ready, I noticed they still had Millie's name down so went to change it and discovered I was in fact expected in the medium class in 20 mins time :eek3:

So a mad rush to get us both dressed, arrived in the warm up just as previous horse was heading up the centre line :o found some kind soul to call for me because my head was full of the advanced medium and I knew I'd get lost. And proceeded to do the shortest warm up in history, just cantered about a bit getting her thinking forward without using up my lung power,

Well, top cob tried her best in the circumstances and did enough for 65% which finishes her winter regional qualification, the aim of the day. I was useless for anything but steering so she couldn't have done any more really.

Back for the AM 20 mins later and she tried hard for 62%, got some 7s for the good changes and the obligatory 4 when she broke into trot during the entry :confused3::rolleyes3::biggrin3: She ended up in the silver section rather than her usual bronze because they were Millie's entries but she wasn't last :D

I'm well knackered though, I really really shouldn't have gone :o
Please ignore useless jockey clinging on for dear life, it's a good job there's no sound (filmed on tripod from the lorry hence the artistic reflection of a rosette on the dash :o), I sounded like a pair of holey bellows :D :o Here is a good pony doing her best to do it for herself!

Hope a couple of quiet days will help... have now volunteered to write for the medium and AM area festival classes at Hartpury on Monday, should be informative :)

Have my first ODE Sunday on my coloured cob.. had him 3 years but its taken so long to get his flat any good and his loading good enough to attend fixed time events. We've gone for the 80cm with BE95 test, remembered it off by heart so far but now doubting if we should of done the 70cm as he's only 14.1.. but we jump 1m at home so hoping it isn't that difficult. He's fit enough. Scared already at the thought.. its remembering the test i'm panicking about! oh and plaiting.. never had to plait before! ekkkkk. First time ever riding away from home in a snaffle too - thats a big deal, he's a strong cob so hope he won't decide he's going to gallop off mid test. Shaking now just talking about it.. god help me!

Popped over this morning to see my homebred 6yo M in a flatwork lesson with her 14yo rider. (M is out on permanent loan). They went really well. I hadn't heard of the trainer before but she's mustard. M can do a banana impersonation given half a chance, but the trainer got the young jockey to ride her forwards and in balance, and the pair really raised their game. I'm delighted.

After another good SJ and XC training session yesterday, they have opted to enter the jockey's first ever BE event in a month's time, to do the BE80.

I'm so chuffed that M has landed with such a super, knowledgable home. She was bred for me to ride, but she's too small and fine for me.
