All my horses have a cough, runny noses and off their feed but eating hay. They are all up to date with their vacs so why have they got what looks like a cold? Their temps are normal at the mo. I'm pulling my hair out. They haven't been of the farm in the last few weeks

Vaccinations don't protect against all viruses, only the current form of Equine Flu . Even that doesn't mean they definitely won't get flu but could still get it though less severely.

Dont want to cause panic, espesh as they are eating hay, but could be strangles. Whatever it is, if youre worried, get the vet to do swabs and know for sure what it is. Hope its nothing serious!

Oh and some things are spread by air droplets so could something have gone past your fields and sneezed near your horses? Or they could have caught something with an incubation period of a few weeks before symptoms show.

Clinical signs for strangles include fever, heavy nasal discharge, and swollen or enlarged lymph nodes in the neck and throat. They may also stop eating and seem dull/off colour.
I think i would be calling the vet

The vet will be called tomoz, 1 only has a cough, another has bad cough and little bit of clear snot and my big lad has little cough and licked up his snot earlier, lovely to watch. Wasn't a nasty colour though. No runny eyes no temps and no swollen glands. Eatting hay just not their dinners.

Is that getting near 104 degrees F? I'm F (old) in horse temperatures. lol Glad the vet is coming tomorrow. Hope they are better soon.

My horse had snotty nose, cough & swollen glands & had vet. Had antibiotics & ventipulmin... Glands still raised when he's been grazing all day. Has had 5 weeks off, back in walk work [2nd ride today] but still bit snotty though clear now rather than pus coloured! He has lot a lot of condition & muscle through it though but he is back to his cheeky self. :) His temp when I checked it was always OK though. Get the vet.

About 10 years ago all ours got ill, snotty , off food, turns out they caught it off some women's horses that she bought from a dodgy dealer yard. I really can't remember if they got treated with anything or not but they all got better anyway.

Hope all goes ok. This time last year my horse got a virus as well as another horse on the yard. Ours took about 5-6 months to come properly right. We didnt have discharge or anything like that just under the weather in terms of energy etc.

Hope all gets sorted though! x

Looks like it's going round them all, it must be pretty contagious.Temps going down is a good sign. I hope it's a self limiting virus and they are all better soon.
Fingers crossed for the vet visit.

I'm waiting at yard now for the vet, since this morning their temps have gone up to 40, and they can't breath with thick thick dark green snot. Poor snots it's come on and got worse so quickly. I'm going to hopefully get stuff to cover the 2 which aren't as bad. Will let u know what the vet says
