I feed my horses Allen and Paige feeds, and just looking on the back of the bag, it says my gelding, who is 16.2hh, should be fed a minimum of 4kg of the feed for what work he is in (this is in the light-medium work catergory). Seeing as this is fed alongside the same amount of chaff, is this not a hell of a lot of feed? So far I've been feeding him about 1kg of that feed a day, along with the same number of scoops of chaff (so not the same weight), and that seems like a fair amount of feed.
Are these guidelines aimed at horses that don't get any forage of something, or am I just seriously underfeeding my horse (pretty sure I'm not, but opinions welcome
)
Thanks for anyone who can help me on this issue.
