Well done scarymare, and I hope he turns out to be a real treasure. Just one thing - you don't have to push yourself to love him straight off. Just learn to like him for who he is and he will find his own way into your heart.
I'm really pleased to hear you have bought him - he sounds very special in his own wee way. Just remember, its a compliment to your boy that you lost that you want another safe, sensible but fun boy to come along and have some fun with. You are not replacing him - you are just getting a new special friend xx
Oh, so glad you got him - he will be therapeutic for you, as horses are for all of us.
I refused to get another after losing one once, until an old friend told me that I was depressed without a horse - and promptly sent one up the road. I was angry and dreading it, but he did me so much good.
Have fun and good luck with your new horse.
I hope you and your new horse learn and grow together, don't forget not only do you have to learn to like then possibly love your new horse, it takes any new animal time to learn to trust us, so hopefully your mutual bond will grow as the year progresses.
I am have also like you lost pony who ment more than I can say, and when I took on fostering two youngster did not expect to get as much pleasure from them as I do, so there are better days ahead.
I wish you both all the best and hope you have lots of fun and pleasure in the months ahead.
congrats on your new horse scarymare
It is hard to move on when you've lost a special one, when my old mare broke her leg i was devastated, like you say, the pain was physical, i felt like someone was sat on my chest for about a week. then a month or so later i realised i was missing having a big beastie around (still had daughters ponies), mentioned it on a forum i was on at the time and the next thing i know i was being asked if i could take a 17hh mare on loan who was otherwise going to end up at the sales, i agreed, i had the room and the girl asking was a friend and it would have broke her heart to see the big girl go to a dealer or the sales. I felt nothing for the big girl at all, didn;t even see her until we went to collect, then she was a biatch and wouldn't load!!
Got her home and let her settle and then rode her, and fell in love she's still here and wouldn't swap the mardy old bag for anything
