Am i the only person in the world who doesn't like coloured horses????

Blimey, some people are taking this a bit personally, aren't they? I actually quite like coloured horses, but would never buy a horse based on its colour alone, any more than I would buy a car! There are far more important considerations when buying a horse. I don't particularly like pale greys, roans, cremellos or chestnuts (except A) or horses with alot of white (except A!) I understand though that you're just refering to personal preference... not any kind of discrimination against differently-coloured horses...

Do you not like my coloured??

[/ QUOTE ] I think he is lovely - and would still be a good horse if he was bay or some other solid colour.

Thanks TGM. And that is PRECISELY why I bought him (the lovely coloured markings were honestly just a bonus)

I have 3 coloureds a skewbald shettie, blue and white cob x t.b and a piebald warmblood x friesian, love them all and they are all perfect for me!! so i LOVE coloureds!!!!!!!!

I would never have gone looking for a coloured horse as they weren't my personal preference, same applies to bays and chestnuts, yet I had a chestnut mare, and now have a bay and a coloured! When I saw Flash I just fell in love, he was like nothing I had ever seen before, and more importantly he had a fantastic personality and is a talented little chap. Everyone has their own opinions and buys for different reasons, before joining HHO I had no idea about how popular coloured horses had become!

Here's my baby, regardless of what anyone else thinks, I love him to bits and think he's gorgeous

(click on pic, its a slide show hehe!)

just discovered how to make these slide show things by accident!

I always imagined I would have a big bay and then I ended up with Jigsaw! Didn't go out specifically looking for a coloured and if I was buying another I also wouldn't go out looking for a coloured. The majority of coloureds don't appeal to me either, but I love my Jiggy and wouldn't part with him for the world!!

right ok.. as a breeder.. of repute .. i have to say.. sorry for those who don't like what i say.. but true none the less.... i find it rather silly, daft, childish etc... etc... to discuss colour as i felt as some sort of abilitly stopping factor there are coloured around Badminton!!!.. although this is not directed either personally at marlinsquest... who started this thread.. may be my bad mood... maybe... the fact the us breeders invest soo much time and effort into our horses, their select breeding etc... it pee's me off, i don't know... but... i find it very chav... ohh god ... know ...someone... wil take it wrong way... but on H&H site perhaps I expected alittle more than that??
Perhaps discontent even at "some" of the current horse franturnity?? Our chestnut gelding who is TBxTrek and notouriously hot mix has taken my 12 yr old to BD medium plus!!! Find talk like this such trivia... so silly..... so chav..... but as I am new to this and as it is a discussion forum I should shut my mounth! probably yes!! So can not help then but comment on people's position etc..... Can't help it in the blood!!! As a child my mother was humililated by my DC many a time... and I have been too by my daughters DC... like in boot camp... BUT got to say cos i will never lie...never does anyone any harm... constructive critics!!

Gosh that was hard work

PLease could you write in proper sentences, this abreviated text is rather hard to read - some might call it chav!

I like coloured horses, so long as they're nicely marked. Personally I don't like spotted horses, but last time I said that on the forum someone took it personally.... *rolls eyes*

Couldnt care less what colour my horse is, so long as it does the job and I like it!
I think breeding for colour above performance is ridiculous and happens way too much.
I also think the extra thousands you can add onto a horse's price tag if its the latest popular colour is quite unnecessary!!

Well I love coloureds and all horses tbh even the ugly ones

I mean we all see some right mingers walking up and down the street don't we. We may have friends or relatives that were not blessed in the looks department yet we don't diss them do we? Turn the other way and ignore them.
A horse is a horse regardless of sex, age, colour or looks!
Personally I would much rather give a good home, a loving permanent home to sad looking ugly ned who has had his or her fair share of stares and sniggers. Crikey if I ever 'came' into money there would be another large equine rescue facility set up lol.
Unless a horse is for showing purposes and needs to have perfect attributes associated with the breed or colour then who cares what colour a horse is, or if it is not a striking specimen.
We each have horses for our own needs. Some are under horsed others over horsed which is why people feel the need to move on from one horse to another throughout their life.
What people choose, colour, breed, sex, age etc is up to the individual.
Personally when I went to the sales and came back with Mcfly I had not gone to get a coloured. We had our eye on a stunning black hunter type but he was too much pricewise and ability wise for a novice rider. We also liked an appaloosa too. My daughter really wanted a palomino but after months of searching I gave up. Those that were our price range were pony sized and too small for a 5ft 5 12 year old who is still growing. Those that were the right height were either too forward or too much.
My own personal faves are greys and blacks though and fave breed is the andalusian and has been for years and even more so after I had a lovely hack a few years back on a stallion used in the film industry.
I ended up though with a bay heavy horse cross and a coloured ( mainly white and ah yes the poo stains lol) cob lol.
Each to their own I say.
We all have faves who cares

I thought it was me!!!!

It actually took till late last night to realise it was me that Panther was calling a bad rider with a rubbish horse.... how blind am I that it had to be pointed out so blatently!!!

Seems to have gone quiet on the big cat front now though

Rather agree with earlier poster though, I dont think that the comments needed to get so personal though (even mine) but it got my goat that someone hijacked a completely innocent post and tried to make it into a slanging match

I love my coloured some are very badly marked but I would never judge a horse on its colour
I love all the hair of a traditional though

no problems Sarah just said what I thought lol. Love your horse btw as I really wanted a black horse till I went to see Doug who was up for loan fell in love and had him lol.
I suppose it was just me being naughty lol and not wanting a common bay colour lol. No offence against bay owners btw but have always been a fan of black horses, black beauty, Bess? Dick Turpin's mare etc.
Also love greys too but have been told a nightmare to keep clean but when turned out for a show etc they look gorgeous and I love all the greys from white grey to steel and blue/grey roans. But faves are the poo stain attractors, white-grey lol.

Once this thread got going and when discussing it at the yard today, I realised that I actually like very few colours..... I would probably only choose (if I had an equally balanced choice) a black, showy dun like blue circle boy, orrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr not sure what else takes my fancy...... that said like everybody else on the site, I am not saying I hate the other colours, they just dont get me going!!!

I like Purple too, looks soooo good on black!!!

But if I was looking I am sure I would fall in love with someone!! I have for the records had a black mare (riding school loan) about 30 years ago!!! then a plain chocolatey brown gelding..... a little grey section A (so that blows that theory about not liking greys out of the water) and a chestnut sec C (again theory gone)

So there you go, I might have a preference but would probably be easily led if the right one came along.

I just wouldnt go out and look for a couloured horse on purpose I suppose, I did help a friend buy one (tricolour) and although I wouldnt have had him for myself, he was a nice horse and she loves him to bits!!

I don't care for Leopard Spotted Appaloosa's......I own 2

My first pony was a skewbald and this was when coloureds really were looked down on - 1973! The kids at the local shows I went to used to make a beeline for him and I could go off leaving them crawling all over him while he stuffed his face with grass and they stuck daisy chains all over him. I love seeing them out and about at bigger shows now especially when they are good at the job the owners bought them for.
