Amersham Horses being sold at Henley

I spent my youth round the auctions, Beeston, Wrexham, Hereford market, and I understand the life well.
Coloured horses, palominos, anything very flashy, they always have made top prices and always will, there is an element of one upmanship amongst dealers at the sales, and often the price paid doesn't even reflect the animal's proper value, it's a case of who "wins" against their mates on the day.
I don't think anyone is saying all travellers neglect their horses, but many are incredibly rough with them, and a lot of their animals end up scared as a result.
As for their treatment of horses, I suggest you take a look at Applebey any sale time and tell me those horses being whipped and hammered up and down the road aren't being abused.
Being insulting to people who have perhaps never been to a sale isn't clever, there are enough of us on here who have made a living out of buying and selling to put any inconsistancies right.
I worked for one of the biggest at the time dealers in the North West. I bought and sold horses and ponies myself later in life when funds got short, using them in the riding school to ensure they were safe and saleable. Not all of us are what you would perhaps class as "Bunny huggers" !
If you go back through my posts you will see I said at the time that not all of the Amersham horse looked neglected, but after so many being rehabilitated and having top class care, I don't think they should end up back in a sale ring.
I think nothing should be moved until after the Court Case, then if the man is innocent the horses are rightfully his no matter what we think.
I doubt however he is, there had to be some neglect for the authorities to seize any horses at all, but until that's established in law, nothing should leave their present homes.
The judge sadly appears to know b* all about livestock, and has made a poor ruling, all we can do is hope he realises and changes his mind. (if legally that's possible)
Your defence of the decision makes me wonder how closely connected you are, I would bet a fortune that there are some of Mr Grey's friends or relatives on here observing what's being said..in the end all the majority of people are asking is for
time to see what happens at the court, and that doesn't seem to be impossible if the authorities make that decision.

Well, if all else fails and we are unable to overturn the Judge's decision, then we can resort to the french method of protest by blocking all roads that lead to the market with our horse boxes!

I've seen on another forum that some of the Amersham horses are going to be sold at Heleny Market.

As I've just lost my beloved Ex Racer I thought I might try and do my bit by giving one of them a home (and yes I know I might be asking for trouble). Does anyone know if the horses will be coming to Henley?

Has anyone been in touch or written to Henley to tell them that there could well be problems from a Health and Safety point of view if this sale goes ahead? As well as all the other problems that could arise???

what sort of money would the averarge horse that goes through Henley make? I am in no position to take on another horse at the moment but would happily buy one and sign it over to one of the sancturies to safeguard it's future.

personally I think (and sort of hope) that prices will be sky high, way above the dealers prices. I feel much better knowing that the costs of the care is to go to the RSPCA from the proceeds of the sale (providing this happens before the money goes to JG as otherwise they will never see it!) and that he will not make a penny out of it but will still be left with a big debt as the costs wont be covered. If members of the horse loving community want to pay a shed load of money to save these animals from future horrors then good on them, I only wish I could afford to help. If I had the money I would buy the lot and sign them back to the welfare groups. I am still hoping that the decision is overruled tbh and the sale doesnt even happen!

me too and fingers crossed justice will be done. But if they have to go the sales is there anyway everyone could start a fund going to raise money so that these horses can all be bought and signed back over to the sancturies?

I've been to Henley Market and I doubt very much they put helath and safety in mind. The place is small and will be crammed! The ring is tiny and they never put enough straw down to stop the horses and ponies falling and slipping.

I'm going to go if these horses are sent there (although I can imagine just how bad it's going to be) and will be looking to give at least one of the poor Bu**ers a lovely home away from that Bas*ard!
