Will Burghley be the first time that AT has competed in this country since Hong Kong and her previous appalling behaviour/riding? just curious what reception she will get?!
went to lexington this year and the public seem to be divided the older supporters remember her unforgivable riding of Le Samurai but younger supporters are so unaware not sure of what sort of reception she will get here I for one will not offer any support whatsoever may she rot in hell
grrrr.... watching her riding makes me soooo nervous.... i know she was very sorry etc, but someone who has never seen a horse would have known that something was seriously wrong with LS....
Will be interesting to see her reception at Burghley.... also, what do the other professional riders think of her??!!
she competed here last year a little. i have no idea what her reception was.
i think she should have had a life ban. so much for the FEI's code of conduct, number one rule of which is, and has been for years, that
"at all times the welfare of the horse must be paramount and must never be subordinated to competitive or commercial influences."
I have never seen any video evidence showing what happened that day, but after reading lots of peoples opinions about what happened she is certainly not a rider that i would EVER want to support again...if fact i don't think i'd even want to watch her.
her horse broke down extremely badly on the xc about 3 from home i think (?) and she carried on making it gallop and jump to complete the course even though it was on 3 legs.
a really horrendous video to watch and i hope she gets the reception she deserves at Burghley.
charlie55, are you serious?
if so... she was leading the Rolex Kentucky 4* 3-day after dressage a couple of years ago on an absolutely stunning young horse, Le Samurai, clear and fast coming to last xc fence, horse broke down very badly in front (was on 3 legs) and trying to trot and pull itself up and she kicked it up together, got it to jump the fence (how the hell that horse managed to land upright i will never know) and finished. even after pulling up she didn't seem to notice that it was hopping lame.
horse by then was so badly injured he had to be shot.
the thing is, i can't see how anyone can defend her. either
a. she felt it and decided to ignore it and press on for the sake of winning, in which case she is no horsewoman.
or
b. she didn't feel it - in which case, trust me, she really is no horsewoman - it was dead lame and a beginner would have felt it, most experienced horse people can feel if a horse is a BIT wrong in front, let alone that bad. anyone as good as she is on the flat (and leading a 4* after dressage is no mean achievement) should have been able to feel it instantly.
FEI were very weak about her 'punishment', put it that way. i think she should have been given a life ban.
Poor horse. I truly hope she gets a poor reception here and don't really wish to see her competing anywhere, never mind in the UK. Her "punishment" no way fitted the "crime".
The more i read about it the more it sickens me, that poor brave horse, what a tragedy. She doesn't deserve to ever ride a horse again. Why would owners send their horses to her now?!?!?!!
God knows, baffles me too. wish she'd go back to firefighting, and leave eventing to horsemen and horsewomen.
we have seen plenty of other riders on horses that suddenly go wrong, i can think instantly of Andrew Nicholson and Zara who have had this happen on course while televised, and they noticed immediately (sometimes before an observer could tell) and pulled up.
absolutely no excuse. a lame horse does not feel sound, ever, in my experience.
I was just thinking about Zara pulling up at Badders when no-one had really noticed her horse wasn't quite right, but she felt it. And AN jumping off his horse so quickly at Burghley when he got a front foot stuck on the fence in the arena, he could have stayed put to see if he got himself unstuck, but he didn't....the horses welfare came first. That's how it should be.
i was thinking about AN at a different time, might have been at Badders or Burghley, was cantering along and pulled up immediately, as Zara did.
i just cannot understand any horse person trying to carry on once the horse feels that wrong... it's not as if jumping a 3'11" fence was going to cure it exactly.
I was just thinking exactly the same thing! Zara really is fantastic is at spotting a problem - she really is an excellent horse women and someone everyone ought to look up to. It is a shame that people like Amy Tryon seem to get the press and not the good horse men and women
(well Zara gets a lot of press but generally not accurate good horse women press - if that makes any sense
It was horrific to watch, any idiot could see it was very lame! It makes you wonder had she pulled up straight away wether the horse coud have been saved???
My un-horsey husband watched the clip on YouTube & was disgusted .
I have never ridden at that level , but have always jumped off the horse when I felt something wasn't quite right . Words fail me ( well they don't , but I don't want to get kicked off this site . )

Totally agree with everything Kerilli said.

Something though doesn't make sense to me - if Amy Tryon knew the horse was lame and thought 'sod it, I'll try and complete XC anyway', how on earth did she think the horse was going to cope with the showjumping the next day??! It was the Rolex Kentucky after all, not a small ODE!

Accroding to her the horse 'locked' on so she had no choice. Despite the fact that she was booting it along
It did not 'lock on' to the fence, i have felt this, and seen it, and that wasn't it. also, she's not exactly tiny and i think if she'd wanted to pull it out we would have seen her trying!
i believe she must have thought that as long as she finished clear inside the time, she'd worry about the trot up later.
ColouredFan, i agree with you, if she'd pulled up immediately i think the horse might have been saved. galloping and jumping on a seriously damaged leg didn't do it any good.
r.i.p. Le Samurai, in a better place now i hope.
as for 'noteable sense of approval when she fell off in the XC at the HK Olympics", i bet i wasn't the only one who yelled "YES!!! ha, serves her right" and danced around the living room with glee. (my OH, who didn't know the story, had a huge go at me about being unsportsmanlike and stormed off to bed.)
i don't want her to fall off at Burghley, because i don't want her horse to be at risk. i just want her to give up eventing.
and if anyone wonders why i'm still banging on about her, it's because i think what she did was the most disgusting thing i have ever seen in competition, and should never be forgotten.

Oh god!! I have honestly never heard of her, i dont really follow XC but it sickens me to think she can still ride and compete!
Has it never been asked why she wasnt banned?

the FEI moves in mysterious ways... unfortunately, we the 'eventing public' didn't get to vote on her 'punishment'.
iirc she got a ban of a few months but some of it was over the winter anyway when she wouldn't have been eventing anyway. unreal.
if Michael Whitaker really does get a 5 yr ban for his horse testing positive to Regumate (as was mentioned in Latest News yesterday) that really will show how ridiculously unfair their judiciary system is. looks as if the welfare of the horse really is not paramount at all.
Ive just watched the video and god thats made me feel physically sick. You can see exactly where it went, i cant believe she kept cantering him, let alone made him jump! I cant believe how mad i am now. Surely she should have been struck off, or at least punched in the face by someone!!
charlie, i hope you're volunteering, she's about twice my size so i daren't! as you say, it is very obvious, to everyone except the woman on top. weird.
you'd be amazed at the calibre of people who supported her tbh, i was.
