"answers about UK Stallion Expo II"

Diggory, I am sorry for my response. It was not meant to sound quite as tart as it does.

But I still stand by what I said, if I have needed any info about an event which I am paying to take part in then I tend to ring the organiser. And no, I don't believe everything I am told on the forum, I like to double check things.

I have organised a few things, very minor in comparison to the expo but can appreciate that when there is a small team of you working on something it is very easy to get caught up in certain aspects of the organising and end up leaving others till the last minute.

So instead of going over the same ground cut them a bit of slack. We seem to have a general consensus that people do want it to be a success, so fingers crossed for that and I look forward to meeting some more of the people from off the forum.

Do you mean like forgetting to listing the stallions that are going to be appearing, mare owners want this information, that is the whole point of the Expo. Are they just suggesting we turn up and take the chance that there MIGHT be a stallion there that we wanted to see.

i just love reading up on how people have nothing better to do then knock people for having the balls to set up an event so big like the expo , i say good on martine and her boss for all the hard work they have put in to make a succes .
i will be attending the expo and will be looking forward to seeing all the stallions and there owners put the hard work in to show off there wonderfull stallions.

i would just like to add that i am very dissapointed in the way jamesmead has turned a fourm into a childs playground .

i only have the 1 username and only use this username , i dont write much on the fourms only read but sometimes im shock at how childish people can be !!

OK, fair enough. However, we will have to agree to disagree, as I see thought provoking posts and also an amazing naivety from some.

If the website is true and the named stallions turn up it will be very exciting to see such quality stallions in one place, well done.

[/ QUOTE ]Iagree im looking forward to seeing all these stallions under one roof so to speak, rather than travelling to all different studs to see only a few.Need to find somewhere to stay any suggestions of good places in Beds would be good

Now there's a thought. You just made me check the site (the address of which I do so hope is altered before next years...) and a) I discovered that the admittance prices are on the home page, however there is no suggestions of "where to stay". Surely this would be helpful for people like yourself? It doesn't affect me, as I'm closer, but perhaps you should contact them? As has been suggested earlier on this thread.

Perhaps the organisers are expecting you to be intelligent enough to use the websites such as Yell.com. It is amazing what you can do these days, there are maps & all sorts of info to be had.

If I'm reading the college website correctly, there are only 50 stables and they are across the road? I've never been to college so not seen stable area.

'Perhaps' they are Magic. However, a true Marketeer never presumes

They put up temporary stables but these are awful. The permanent ones arent much better and not what I'd be happy putting a valuable stallion in, to be honest.

As the organisers have stated they are doing this to high standards, then like all other major stallion events on the Continent, they always list the local accommodation for people attending the event.

Also if the facilities have 50 stables, where do they plan to house all the stallions, especially if the temporary stabling is not up to housing a stallion in a safe environment?

I am "assuming" (perhaps incorrectly) that all stallions present will be in the stables for mare owners to view throughout the event.

I do hope it is a success for the sake of British breeding and for those having spent money.
However I do agree re the stables. When I've stabled there for BD regionals the stables themselves were fine although I can't remember the height of the walls but the walkway between the lines was quite narrow. You had to run the gauntlet so to speak to get your horse through without being accosted by the horses either side. That was with a mare but with stallions, even the best behaved, not sure I'd fancy it tbh.

That may give people a little more confidence in the organisers!

Quite frankly I think the expo was a public embarrassment for British Breeding, thanks to p*ss poor organisation!

I can't imagine for one second how anyone who attended could honestly say it was even remotely acceptable.

This weekend should have been a platform to launch British Breeding at it's best. Instead, it made us look like incompetent amateurs.

Where do I start:

- The website, could have been more interactive and had more information (like where do you buy tickets). The schedule was only posted a couple of days ago.
- There was no signage showing where the car park or entrance to the event was.
- There was no signage saying there was a stallion expo on (yet the website claimed it was the biggest event in british breeeding - surely it would merit at least one sign at the entrance).
- The programme, erm...printed list of stallions and timings was not worth the paper it was written on and looked really shoddy.
- The horses had no bridle numbers
- you could not hear the public address system
- They kept messing up when the music should be on or off, they even managed to switch the microphones off at one point.
- There was no sign of the prize draw referred to on the website.
- If you could get access to the stable area for a close up look then they kept that well hidden. I couldn't even figure out where the stables were and how to access them.

Of course there were some positives:-

- From an educational point of view - the info was all there in the one place but you had to work to find it.
- the exhibitors were very friendly and free with their advice.
- A lot of nice horses
- A great opportunity to see lots of stallions under the one roof...and in action.

In summary....a missed opportunity...British Breeders/Stallion owners did their bit and I think it is sad that they were so badly let down by the organisers. Who was responsible for the organisation, does anyone know?

I hope this year's disgrace does not put breeders and exhibitors off of coming to an expo again next year and that the organisers learn from their mistakes and sort it out for next time.
