ohhhh nice work Charlie, did a proper job there didn't he?! if vet hasn't already used it ask for some aluspray, vet used it on my big girl when she gashed her leg, keeps infection at bay by depriving it of oxygen, fabby stuff. fingers crossed for good recovery :)

youth poor chap - how on earth did that happen or is it one of life's mysteries?

Get some micronised linseed asap from Charnwood Milling 2cups at least a day will help your weight loss issues. Im surprised he's on box rest to be honest as provided it can be kept clean movement will stop the site getting tight and inflexible and retaining fluid.

AW hope he recovers ok. I know you will get a lot of recommendations but I have recently had huge success with Aniwell filta bac cream. Its antibiotic and acts like a second skin. I was having trouble getting an operation wound to heal up and this did the job in about six days applying once a day.

Just ordered some linseed :)

We think he has lost his footing/tripped cantering down a slight slope and has put his legs through the sheep fencing :(

They look like very similar injuries Lolo, thanks for posting. When you say it needs checking daily, do you mean by me or by a vet? Is it just a case of checking it's not too tight?

Vet isn't due back out till Wednesday unless I have any concerns before hand.

Our vet came out every other day to reapply the bandage... I don't want to be a scaremongerer, but it was 100% avoidable and she was very lucky to come out of it with only a set of nasty scars as a reminder. She ended up having nearly 4 months off for what should have been a month at most.

Poor boy, hope it heals up well.

Have you tried compressed grass blocks? They come in 1kg blocks and can be soaked etc, might help if he has to be box rested for a while and might encourage his appetite, mine love them.

Equi med ag do a silver wound dressing which might help fight infection/heal up faster, haven't tried it but read good things, they also do knee boots.

Oh bless him, that looks nasty. Did the vet pack it with dermagel or similar before bandaging?

The morning I had the lorry coming to get Fly here to the new house, she took a really deep and nasty chunk out of her pastern. That was not the reason she ended up needing the vet again 3 days later, but I did have the vet check and the progress of healing was astonishing. I had been cleaning it four times daily and packing with dermagel that the vet supplied for me on the day she did it and in just three days, the granulation had started. By the Monday, just two more days, I had the vet look again, stupid I know considering I had just lost her, but I just wanted to know that it was improving until the end if that makes sense. Vet looked and said she is constantly amazed at how these new gels and bandaging methods can work wonders.

It looks so awful, but the bandaging will prevent the movement in the joint so it has every chance of healing really well.

Sending massive vibes....it's horrible isn't it. I remember the call for Teasle at 6am that she'd just cut her face badly and she'd been stabbed and fractured her nasal bone...it was like a scene from one of the Saw movies, but she was healed up in no time.

Lots of hugs for you and lots of cuddles for Charlie xx

Sending vibes for quick healing. Our largest dog has a massive wound where he had his cruciate ligament repaired last week and I can't believe how quickly it's healing so sharing some of those vibes with Charlie

Please be so careful with that bandage, it needs checking every day.

http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/foru...s-Knees-a-cautionary-tale-with-a-happy-ending!

Please read this. She did come sound, but she was badly scarred and there was a high likelihood of permanent tendon damage.

When my girl was being treated for a tendon injury my vet was telling me about a horse he'd been treating and the owner had wound the bandages too tightly and not refitted them sufficiently and the skin all sloughed off and the tendons were damaged. A horse on box rest doesn't need so much support as a limb which is moving alot. Make sure you can put a finger down between the wadding and the leg when the bandage is on.

Update for you all. The vet came today and is really pleased with how it is looking. Charlie is nice and bright and desperate to be out so fingers crossed that's a really good sign. I'm allowed to graze him in hand so will do that as often as I can. I'm trying, but possibly failing to get him to eat as much fibre based feed as possible as he's not eating much hay at all.

We had another disaster this morning, as the vet was leaving he somehow managed to run over my cat :( He rushed him back to the surgery for treatment but we still don't really know which way it's going to go. The x-rays are clear but he's very dazed so they are worried about head trauma, and he is also unable to support himself through one of his legs/shoulder :( I know I've probably used my quota of vibes up but if anyone could spare a few more it would be much appreciated.

It never rains does it! Glad Charlie is doing well and sending vibes for him and moggy - and a hug for you. You've had quite the few days so make sure you look after yourself too.
