The fireworks started by the time I left baby horse tonight, he did seem fairly settled just held up his head and looked around abit but not stressed.

However by me there are loads tonight, we don't really have any but got some very load ones going off over the town this year.

I'm sure he will be fine, he's in a indoor barn 30+ horses, hes the youngest and his stable buddies are 20+ been there seen it all types. And he's based 4miles out of town. Plus the YO lives on site but is a farmer so non horsey.

are you doing an extra check tonight?

I am currently sat at yard with very loud fireworks going off in every direction and looks unlikely I will be home before 10:00 as I have one very upset pony and one who couldnt care less.
oh the joys of horses....

Nope but then mine are about a mile away from the main town but still right next door to RNAS Culdrose so they are very used to lots of loud wierd and wonderful noises, plus they are all roasty toasty and tucked up in the barn with their pals :D they won't see a thing and the noise from YO few fireworks won't bother them, never has before.

I do a late night check every night anyway :p Have just been out to peak at him now though as I realised there were fireworks going off and he isn't in the least bit bothered, was nice watching a few fireworks with him :D

I probably will do as my dog will start stressing when they get really loud, so I will take him a drive out and might as well go to the yard.....also means that i can do a late skip out so that I'm not left with as much mess in the morning!

Stuff it's ears full of cotton wool and leave some music on if possible to drown out the noise :)

No was there lateish last night cos of work and they were going off in the school field next to the yard and ponieo didnt even look up from his net nor were the dogs bothered that were tied up next to the stable, the only one bothered was my 7 year old daughter!!!!:D least the animals were happy and it means tonight im sat watching x-factor and not having to take daughter to stand in a field to watch the damn things!!!! ;)

Ok that was a bad plan I dont think he likes anything in his ears judging by the running round stable shaking head fairly dramatically!
He doesnt mind being trimmed or having ears cleaned normally......thanks for thr suggestion 3beasties :)

Yep, I've left my baby out for now so she can get away if she wants to, would hate her to panic while shut in and think she's got nowhere to go! Going back down at 11 to put her in if all quiet xxx

My OH hates horses!!!! ( apprantly) he had been making me do checks every 20 mins, I did not want to as I thought that it might make pony think there was something to worry about!!!!

I have just made the OH go and check as I was fed up and pony is fine, he came in and said, and please remember this is horse hater ..,,,

' baby boy is fine!!!' lol

Who would have thought!!

well my 4 year old who was in his stable has just jumped the door, flattened it and took it off the hinges and went up the back behind the stables to hide from them!!

the other 5, who are in the field, are happily munching away at the grass without a care in the world. it's good having them at my house, can keep my eye on them at all times!!

before anyone asks (have been told by a few people tonight that horses should be in the field so they can run if they're scared) the 4 year old was in the stable because he keeps jumping the fence out the field and taking himself for a walk...which obviously is very dangerous and he could probably get to the main road if he wanted to. he normally goes in a stable this time of year at night, by himself while the others are in the field without a fuss.

bloody fireworks....it's about time they banned the sale of them!! too many idiots about

last night was the local big night out so spent the evening at the yard as mine are all still out. One watched the whole display, another was to busy stuffing his face to actually notice and the other jumped a couple of times then stood in the corner and turned her bum on them!

I've just checked them and they're about half way up the hill watching the last of the display very calmly.

At my last yard there was a big display about 200m away from the yard, so the girls are used to fireworks but I was worried about the gelding, but he's cool. ;)

Luckily ours are at home so not far to check - i've been out there most of the evening and have just come in to warm up and have some tea before i go back out.
The two in the stables are okay, a bit wide-eyed but better with classical fm turned up loud. Companion pony is behaving himself beautifully outside in the field thanks to the tiny bit of calmer he had earlier, he's in a dreamworld. I'm a bit worried about my little loan lady, she's very frightened of the ones only one field away, keeps charging about, running up and down fences and she's grinding her teeth and pawing at the ground constantly, very panicky bless her. Thankfully she's a very "people" horse and is a lot better when I'm out there with her so I'm going to be spending a long night in the field shelter with her I think!

HATE bonfire night!

melxvengeance, I hope your boy is alright - poor thing! x

My guys are tucked in bed wi their jammies on munching merrily
Im lucky we're about 4 miles from the nearest village and 6 from the town show.
I can see them lighting the sky in the distance, but cant really hear then, and that suits me fine

Just got back from the yard, the boarding school next door has a big display so a couple of us stayed to keep and eye.
Horses were mostly OK, mine was standing very alert and watching but didn't do anything most completely ignored them.

We got in a bottle of wine and a chinese and watched the fireworks.

I resisted the temptation to go and check on them (I know he will be fine with the fireworks) but I'm more worried about the 20+ people that are apparently descending on the yard house after a local display. If there are people running around the yard its going to seriously stress the boy out and i anyone goes to say hello to him and hes stressed then he will happily take chunks out of them!!

Just checked on mine all still out and quite calm, thought the new one might be upset but the others are used to the noise and they led him by example bless them.

Have just been up to check my girl, the yard is sandwiched inbetween some organised firework displays & I was a bit worried as I had heard some loud bangs, some that even made me jump!

I must say after creeping round to her stable to see her reaction to all the screeching & the bangs going on around her, I was very surprised to find her fast asleep with her head hanging over the stable door :D

I was trying to sneak away so she wouldn't hear me, turned my back only for her to call to me as if to say "I know your there"

The yard was pitch black, it was noisy & I was about 100 yards away, yet she knew it was me. None of the other surrounding horses spoke, just her.

Glad I checked on her, put my mind at rest, just feel really guilty for disturbing her :)

Can I be a little harsh and say , that maybe those of you sitting with your horses are reinforcing the fact they have something to be afraid of?

In a herd they all gather together when they are worried!!! So by sitting and comforting them, you are reinforcing the fear.

Sorry , I have dOne the sitting with them, and it did not improve until they realised themselves that everything would be ok!!!Sao

I a lucky in that my old boy used to panic, but he was at home, So I watched from my front room, he did panic at first , but would calm down, if I went to see him he would go mental again!!

Sorry soo long, but even my firework phobic rescue dog does bother because we are do non bothered by them.

Good luck all xx

I feel a bit of a heel. I LOATHE fireworks. We do grass livery, and so ours are all in the field (in the house is one shaking foxhound x dalmation trying to put himself in the washing machine). I put something in the village magazine about letting neighbours know if you're going to have fireworks and, bless them, four different familes contacted me to tell me. BUT I had a sudden brainwave. All casual I said to one of the chaps. "That's really kind of you and I do appreciate it" (whch I do) "I suppose you take out some insurance, don't you?" "
What?"
"Well, oh dear, I just assumed you would if you were having fireworks. Because if the steeplechaser breaks his leg his owners will be coming looking for compensation. Not me, you understand, but them."
"Oh dear, is he worth a lot then?" (the £££ signs are startting to tick over in his eyes).
"Well, yes", (lightly) "a bob or two".
"Oh right"...... "Well the kids are growing out of fireworks now. Probably the last year we'll be having them". Yeeeesssssss!!!!

Now I'm on a mission........

Apparently the farm next door had a bonfire and loads of fireworks in the field next door, my horses where running around and panicking according to a neighbour, bit peeved as they failed to let me know about the fireworks as would have moved them, just hope the stressy TB hasnt injured herself hurling around in slippy mud :mad::mad:

They have settled down now.

As fellow horse owners a phone call/text/word would have been nice
