My horse was 6 on sunday....I cant say I have ever had too many problems with him....(touch wood) but I have to say apart from a few child like sillies while out riding he is as good as gold...ive never known a youngster take on so much and just act so maturely about it.
When I bought him he had mouth problems from where the bit had rubbed and caused painful soars without his owners noticing, he was very head shy, his owner had fallen off of him which had shocked both him and the horse and he not been ridden for a while, he was as fat as a pig, had a stinking attitude and greeted everyone with his ears back and had only just been shipped from france so was prob a little scared.

We had to wait weeks before we could buy him due to the owner not really being very forth coming but in the end he was ours....

I can not say I have ridden a better horse. I rode out in my western saddle yesterday and he was just great....few neighs on the way, but didnt flinch at any traffic and walked on lovely....even when another horse goes by he just stands there looking at them....

This was last summer
Has anyone ever had a horse where they have just known he/she was the one?..I cant quite describe it without sounding silly but there was just something about him that made me want to buy him...

Hi

Yes I know where you are coming from.

I have had my chestnut gelding Danny since he was three, as soon as I saw him I knew he was the one. He was horrible to break in but he is now 11 and is the best equine friend I have had. I have 9 horses but Danny is No 1.

He has the greatest character and no matter if I am having a bad day he always cheers me up.

I know exactly what you mean. My current pony is the best horse I've ever had. My daughter is home for the school holidays and we have both been riding our little mare this week . We've done flatwork, polework, hacked out for miles, I've had a lunge lesson on her and we've had a great time.

I have never had such a strong bond with a horse before and neither has my daughter. It's a great feeling to find a horse that is just perfect for you isn't it?

Definitely know what you mean!

We searched the country for the right horse; we looked at 23, and although many of them were lovely (others less so), there was something that just wasnt right. Then my trainer phoned us one morning and said he'd just got a horse in from a dealer's yard up the road, and it was worth us having a look....and I never looked back! Knew at once that she was the one for me, even though she was younger, smaller and far 'sharper' than we had been looking for!

Eight years on, we've never looked back, and she certainly has a home for life!

Yes, I nearly brought my horse Fudge unseen and when I drove 4.5 hours to try him I knew he'd give me my confidence back hacking in company so much so that he's now being schooled in the hope that we'll be able to compete together. His owners were completely honest that he wasn't perfect and I just knew he was the one for me.

The first time I saw Emerald I liked her, she had such a kind eye. I had no idea then what a huge impact she would have on our lives and how much of a bond we would build. She is a horse of a lifetime, not only for me, but for my son too, who has learned nearly everything he knows about horses and riding with her.

Yes - when i went to see Murphy I walked up to him and he reached over and snuffled my whole face with his moustache!! I remember watching his solid backside walking up the road when we went to see what he was like in traffic and thinking "if I don't feel safe on that I won't feel safe on anything" - I'd lost my confidence really badly at the time.

He has proved to be my absolute superstar, he's everything I was looking for and more.

Yes my boy I went to view another horse saw him brought him simple as that, yes we have had our ups and downs but I would not part with him for anything we have done all the firsts together he was an unbroken three year old when i got him.

absolutely!

the first time i saw Shadow may have been nearly 15 years ago, but i still remember the first time i saw her. i was so jealous that my sister was riding her first at the riding school, i couldnt keep my eyes off her for the entire lesson, but i got my turn the next time round and that was it - head over heels and have been for years!

i actually chose to buy a 22 year old crippled ex-riding school pony rather than a fabulous show jumper with paces to die for. am i mad?!?!

so unbelievably glad i was able to buy her. i do miss the show jumper as she was awesome and never had a horse give me such an adrenaline rush, but i love my little old lady. i love the fact she still tries to take off on the odd occasion and gets over excited whilst jumping and can still ponce around the dressage arena - all at the age of 28!

and although i've had some very strong bonds with other horses before, i know what i have with shadow is special because she's never bonded on any level with anyone else - we just 'get' eachother. i suppose thats what happens after 15 years together eh??

Yes Po, the one and only...To tell her story would be too long but this horse was asked for far too much, far too soon (nothing to do with me!) and yet gave and exceeded expectations and tasks consistently. Saved my life twice and that is no exaggeration as another horse in the field tried to kill me....She was everything to me. Only on loan and sold on when I was 8000 miles away and could do nothing. I found her again after 6 years of searching.

No I am afraid I can't.....She is however in a fantastic home now but will sadly never be ridden again.... I can not tell the story on an open forum as it could be seen as being defamatory, but can pm the gist of it if you like.

The gorgeous Po - so nice to see her pics again

Yes, Cercano was and always will be my horse of a lifetime - I never, ever had a bad ride on him and he and I were just, well, perfect. All of the others I have had have been "make do" horses I am afraid.

Yes Ben my current horse.
I knew what I wanted when I was looking for a bigger horse, I never imagined I would come across one though as they are very few and far between.
Anyway I didnt even have to ride ben I Was having him untried, I did ride him however and loved him to bits,

We have come a long way his attitude is fantastic he really tries for me, I saw a lot of horses and although they was nice just not for me, I have had a fantastic year and a bit with him, He is my horse of a lifetime and he will have a home for life

Dibbs was on loan to me, I hated riding him at first, I cried an awful lot in that first week! But I got to ride him every day, only had to muck out at weekends, got 3 lessons a week paid for for me, and got taken to comps. So I put up with it.

I knew he was 'the one' for me when I got a text from his owner "sorry he's been sold, he's going in a week". He was mine on my 17th birthday, purely by chance. He has a home for life with me.

what a handsome horse.!!
i knew Andy was 'the one' for me pretty much straight away.. he failed the vet as a 5yo due to having a heart murmur and at first i walked away but something in my head just couldn't let go.!
i went back and made an offer for him and that was nearly 6 yrs ago.!! not only does he have the most fantastic temperament, personality and manners (you can't leave many TB's that are event fit stood in the middle of the yard with no headcollar on while you untack, faff, chat etc without them naffing off.!!) but he has taught me so much in the saddle as well that i am so grateful for.!! he really is a one in a million..

Many years ago I thought I'd found the horse of a lifetime, sadly that lifetime was cut short and I gave up horses thinking I'd never find one like her.
Decided to give it a go again some time later and found an entirely different horse. I had every intention of selling her again after a few months as she wasn't the same horse.
One day she nuzzled me affectionatly and I realised despite all my anger towards her for not being the same, she would still do anything for me.
I learnt to love her as she was, not for who she wasn't.
Sadly that too has been cut short.
If dream horses are one in a million, then it's a good job there's obviously a couple million horses in this country at least. Because I have very definantly had TWO horses in a million!

I know exactly what you mean, when I was looking for another pony I tried a quite a lot and some of them just sitting on them was enough to know I didn't want them. I can't explain why but I just didn't want to ride them. However when I went to look at Pete I thought he was gorgeous and although I was still nervous about riding him I did take him on some gallops accompanied and that was it, I had to have him. He has honestly been the most fantastic little horse and people are always telling me how lucky I was to find him.

They do look similar, don't they?
Your boy looks like that lovely golden Palomino

yes he does go darker in the summer and lighter in the winter :0) Ive got him on topspec at the mo in hope it will give his coat that bit more shine :0)
Good luck for this weekend - lets hope there is some sun shine :0)

I knew as soon as i sat on spooks!

I had gone through a year of losing my nerve, when I got to the point of being so petrifies of my previous horse that I would make any excuse possible to not have to ride him and felt sick whenever i set foot in the stable with him.

Decided to sell and start looking as i didn't want to have a break - i thought if i did i would never get on again, and I found spooks. The minute i sat on him i felt safe and even felt brave enough to take on a little jump. From there we have gone on to to dressage, hunter trials and are just about to start our 3rd season of endurance - just wish he was a little younger though!

Yes, Jim stole my heart straight away. In theory he's all wrong & he certainly wasn't what I was looking for. He has some fairly significant faults & does limit what I do - but my finances probably limit us more! However I just love spending time with him, not even doing anything. He makes me feel good just by being there & he's different with me than most other people. I love the silly sod to bits!
