Whilst researching an article for Breeding News for Sport Horses on the sire, dam, dam's sire and breeder of all the horses (including reserves) selected for the GB teams for Hong Kong I came across this site.

http://www.spontano.net/Ela-Mana-Mou

Sadly for British Breeding there is only one British-bred horse in the entire list, Miner’s Frolic by Miner’s Lamp but he does have absolutely top class connections as two of his joint owners Mr & Mrs Embiricos also owned the legendary Ela Mana Mou who cost 4500 guineas as a yearling in 1976 but went on to be top 4 year old flat racehorse in Europe in 1980. Amazingly as this web site shows, Ela Mana Mou is still alive and well and happy today at the age of 32 after a very long successful career at stud. Let’s hope Miner’s Frolic rewards his owner's faith in him by being as successful in his field of activity.

In 1980 I would have been only 6 years old....

Good to see the old boy still enjoying life though...

Had a giggle to myself as his name sounds a bit like "eenie meenie minne mo"...

I do. How lovely to know that he's still around. 32 years old! Seems only a few years since I saw him racing.

My husband rode a race horse called Minshanshou Amad (spelling?) He was by Ela Mana Mou. He won on him and the second time he rode him, he bit one of the other jockeys on the ankle during the race!!!!!!!! He drew blood though his boot. He was a little s**t. The trainer was told he either had to race in a muzzle or he would be banned from racing again. Needless to say he never ran on the track again!!!!

Ela Mana Mou was a cracking horse.

Well I don't remember his racing career, but I certainly know of him as a sire and broodmare sire! We have 2 mares by him now, the 2nd arrived this morning - a recent purchase after her current 3yo won a G1 at Royal Ascot this year!

Also, as an aside, this is incredibly geeky, but I held Minor's Frolic's dam when he was conceived.

I think the term you're looking for is "athletic" or maybe "forward".

I had a Solist/tb mare - she was all of the above. Had the most enormous trot but unfortunately didn't ever really develop any other gears.

Yes, I have to agree there......Henry (Helenos) is actually a real laid back larry!
He does have a huge trot but is always happy to stop working, believe me when I say I don't do sharp horses!!!
He is actually the gentlest, most polite horse I've ever known.

I remember him as a sire, good old breeding, none of this Northern Dancer rubbish LOL
Petingo so close up ( I always had a thing for his grandson Petoski having owned two crackers by him) and then Hyperion on the dam side and Court Martial, Relic etc. In fact looking at it, what a list of great names there.
