Anyone want to move abroad?

I am so OVER this rain.... fields have so much surface water on them... I've never known it stay this wet.... where is the dry hard winter we so desperately need.... It's making me seriously think about moving somewhere else...

I wouldn’t want to leave permanently but if I had sufficient cash and horsey cover I could handle extended holiday stays over the winter months….3 weeks here…3 weeks there……

When I started working in the travel agents years ago. We had regulars that did this.
90 days holidays at a time often costing as little as £299 everything included. Now i think it would be a fortune

Not sure where you would go for the better winter as it is even chucking it down in Spain at the moment

When we both retired we did consider our options and moving abroad was an option.I even spent time in email discussion with people who had done it.
After a long time over a year weighing it all up we decided not to go abroad .Health was a consideration although we are both fit and healthy and you can get health insurance abroad as you get older it gets much dearer and it often seems that people move back to the UK in their 80:s particularly if they have no family in the country they have moved to and often are priced out of the market in the UK.
We have just decided that these will be our last horses and will not be replacing them . Without the work of doing horses am and pm and managing the land and out buildings life will be easier.

Dry as a bone in Cheshire. Our usually wet fields are currently holding up well and are as dry as a bone. No doubt that'll be the kiss of death now though!

I must admit the rain really got me down last year but after seeing hurricane M I have sworn never to complain about our weather again.

Once my horses have lived their lives I've also sworn no more, purely because of the weather last year

Colorado is still 22 degrees during the day and sunny! But, the snow is no doubt on its way. I'd take the snow and cold any day over the rain and grey, at least it's nearly always bright and sunny which makes such a difference.

Never thought I'd leave the UK until I did, and now can't imagine going back and a lot of that is to do with the weather.

I mean per CC's post, WHERE in the USA is very important! I couldn't do Florida with the humidity and bugs for example.

Oh yes definitely not down south. Somewhere not far from you but maybe with a little less snow

Unfortunately I think that global warming means there's no good country weather-wise to live in anymore, I get sick of the incessant rain and gloom too but I'd rather that than droughts, forest fires, hurricanes and tornados.

I would not want to move to a climate which is already considered hot by normal standards (Australia, Spain, parts of the US), also would not in a million years move somewhere which is low-lying and prone to flooding/sea level rise.

My solution for this time of year is to try and embrace it as much as possible and lean into anything that's going to make me feel cosy - wooly jumpers, candles, roast dinners, a warm porridge for breakfast, lighting the log burner etc. Anything to make the gloom a cosy experience rather than a miserable one.

It's also worth bearing in mind that if the AMOC stream collapses (which scientists predict is fairly certain), Winters in the UK are slated to become significantly colder, as much as a 7 degree drop across the board.

I lived in Cyprus as a teen and into my early 20’s. Best 4 years of my life. Wonderful dry heat everyday from April until the end of October then although it was cold at night you could wear shorts and tee shirt during the day. Lots of swimming, windsurfing and riding year round and in the winter there was always snow on the mountain so you could water ski in the morning and snow ski in the afternoon.

Would I go now. Yes all winter. Summer not a chance, I’d melt

We had 2 dry frosty days last week we are back to torrential rain now, and it's going up to 19 degrees so wet and warm great.

Yes, my parents stayed away in the winter. First in a hotel and then they bought a caravan so they could move around the country.

Yes you can, if you find one gutsy enough, quite a few people over here do that. Hate to say it but the Ayrshire rain and gloom was one of the reasons I relocated to NZ lol pleased you are having a good spell lol!

It has surprised me so much. Never seen ayrshire so dry especially in october

In Spain when it rains, it really rains. I remember being caught out one time and even my knickers needed wringing out. Then it goes back to warm and sunny in the south or in the centre cold and sunny.

Whereas it's seemed constantly damp here at the moment.

If we were younger we would go to either Canada (BC for choice) or New Zealand. Climate in both those places seems more structured, if you follow.

Central Madrid. About £1200.

Madrid can get much colder than the UK in winter. It's very high up and can get to freezing at night .

They did have some some unseasonably warm weather in March this year but it was cold when I visited late March.

Summer it goes to the other extreme and can be over 40 in August

Spain is bigger as well so the interior can be extreme hot and cold. You need to be further south and on the coast for year round warmth though don't expect to be in the sea all year round.
