Greetings. Was looking into some jodhpur boots recently and stumbled across these "sporty" ones by Horze. As much as I like the way these look I would prefer them in black, I was wondering if anyone could throw some recommendations of some in a similar style my way? I have looked at the Woof Wear ones but they just look like a standard hiking shoe to me? By the way I am male so I don't want anything overly feminine lol. Oh and I'm a size 5 UK. Also I'd prefer something of a relatively decent price, though imo these ones I am looking at are rather pricey vs what I would normally buy even for every day use, or cheaper than these, so basically nothing over £100+ else I'd be too scared to wear em in fear of getting them wrecked! lol.

Hmm, yeah, I have seen those, wasn't too sure how I felt about the double tags lol. Not to mention they don't look as reinforced as the ones I appealed to and cost more so there's that. Good suggestion though as they do have a more sporty/masculine look to them, soles look reasonably good, not that simple flat crap you tend to get on cheaper brands. Honestly I don't understand why they make em like that, they're too slippy and its not like I want em for dancing and doing the moonwalk lol. Anyway, thanks for the suggestion.

The double tags on the mountain horse ones do serve a purpose - for pulling them on! They are not an abstract fashion statement. Many men I know wear them.

As for reinforcement, you can get them with steel toecaps if you wish (although mine in that style have always been dark brown not black).

The leather is very tough and they last well. They are mu bot of choice, and well worth the money IMO as they last longer.

There was a time when I might have bought a pair like that, but not nowadays.

For £100 I wouldn't buy a pair that could not be resoled.

At £60 I might go for it, but I'd be watching the soles for signs of wear, and if they started wearing more quickly than I consider normal, then they'd be straight back with a demand for replacement or refund.

I'm not all that keen on elasticated panels, either, but that's just me. I'm sure those panels could be replaced if they start to get slack.

I have the MH ones and like them well enough-although I prefer the fit of the lace up MH Riders as find the jodhpur boots a little wide for me.

MH are imo one of the harder wearing boots and they look good, they aren't great in frosty/icy conditions as the sole is too hard (I've had the peaks and riders both of which I live in when not frosty!) and the riders last me up to three years or riding, dog walking and wearing to work.

Not sure what you're getting at here, nothing wrong with the soles as far as I know.. As for elastic panels? I think they're meant for flexibility?

Oh I Don't doubt that, I'd just feel ridiculous as most only have, and normally only need, 1 tag. And in all honesty? I like the look of the Horze ones better.. just a shame they're brown.

The soles on that pair of boots look like they are moulded and glued, you can't replace them when they wear.

As for the elastic panels, they're there so you can get them on and off easily, not for flexibility while walking. I prefer laces for that, but that's just my preference. My point in commenting on them is that when the elastic panels go slack after a few years, it will probably be an easy job to replace them.

Oh hmm, ok, you make a point I suppose. As for those riders? They look nice and I saw similar things but they just look like hiking boots to me?
Also, I want something I can wear in summer, not just winter, especially now Spring is on it's way. They look too warm for Spring/Summer.

well you can walk and ride in them-the only issue is sometimes half chaps don't fit over the laces well but then I tend to not wear half chaps much. I wear them spring through to late autumn, they are not thermal-lined or anything so don't find them too hot but I am in Scotland and am the kind of person that won't wear flip flops until its 30oC lol.

for this year (got the for christmas) I am trying out the Tuffa Endurance boot but they aren't similar to what you wanted. I had some years ago too and they are lightweight and very comfy-but not jodhpur boots if thats the look you are after.

God damn stupid forum ate my post even though it seems to save what I wrote but in this case it didn't...

Anyway, was just saying those Tuffas look good but yeah, they're brown and I want black and they're slightly more than the Horze ones I looked at, depending on where you shop.
Also, I bought some nice blue and black half chaps recently so I wanted something nice to go with those and the only jodhpur boots I have are... dun dun da... BROWN! lmao, also rather cheap ones so nothing too fancy, figured I'd invest into something better this time. Besides, I looked at the black ones Decathlon has, which is where I got my brown ones, and frankly I just don't like em. So yeah, that's why I was looking at jodhpur boots.

I see what you mean, they do look a bit chunky, and I can see that you might have trouble fitting half-chaps over them.

I usually wear full height boots, Soubiracs, without zips or laces.

But I have some Clarks Broyd ankle boots that are not sold as riding boots, but do the job well. I bought a pair in 44 for wearing with thin socks and two pairs in 44.5 (one black, one brown) for thick socks and for the office.

One reason why I tried them, is that if my foot slips out of the stirrup, I have trouble getting my foot back in again if my boot is a little bit large at the toe; these boots are pointed enough that I can just about manage to find the stirrup again at a canter (it might take me thirty seconds or so, but I can do it).

I bought a pair of Decathlon ankle boots a few years ago. They were not much less expensive than the Clarks, but were not repairable, were unlined, and wore out far too quickly. I wouldn't buy them again.

LOL! I know the feeling all too well here which is why I don't particularly like the flat slippy soled pointy jodhpur boots, hell even riding ones if there are any, which does seem quite common unfortunately.

Just so you know I'm size 37ish in EU, I fit best in 38 I think? Like I said earlier, have small feet for a guy, hell I'm rather small in general for a guy lol. Well, even though you didn't exactly answer my question with an alternative with a similar style I do appreciate your input and feedback, I feel well informed at least so thank you for that :-)

Have to say I wouldn't want those ankle boots, they're a little too office shoe looking for me lol ^_^;

Yeah, I looked at those, not to sure about em.. As for cutting tags off? then ya just ruining the whole principle and point in buying them really..

I wear these boots. They have steel toes and aren't girly. They're cheap, they usually last me a couple of years of walking, riding, slopping through mud. They don't have enough grip for snow.

Double tags again... but I am intrigued by the steel toe caps and soles look like they might have some good grip so I'll keep them in mind, though someone might mention they're molded or glued on too..?

Only ones I like on that site are the Nordics and I think they'd make my feet swet too much in Summer..

By the way, don't mean to play a tough customer here guys, just not finding much like those Horze ones unfortunately and ones I've seen regarding laced up or hiking well, I have those at home! lol. I actually own some beige, brown and black mixed Adventuridge hiking boots and some random plain black leather boots that I could wear for riding that look VERY similar to the boots I've been linked to but they don't look like jods really and I honestly don't see why they should even be labelled riding boots personally. Hell if it wasn't for my Wranglers Jodhpurs I had for line dancing years ago not fitting me anymore I'd wear those! although to be frank they're not really the style I'm looking for, lol.

You need the tags to pull them on, trust me. And at £35 who cares when they wear out.

Haha! Touché, especially if it were about that to have em mended anyway, may as well buy another pair and not worry about it. Also, you say you need the tags to pull em on, is that speaking from experience?

Ariat Volant? I’d live in mine if I got away with it!

From what I can tell from Google these are way above the price I'd be willing to pay right now, bloody nice though!

To be honest you are so hard to please I suggest that you buy the brown ones that you like, sell your new black and blue half chaps and buy some brown ones of those ...

this-you want to spend less than £100 on some boots, just buy some and if you don't like them just don't buy them again-just like the rest of us. if I spend that on boots that then last three years of heavy use, I think thats reasonable hence recommending MH.

the tuffa nordics are great btw, I have some but they aren't summer boots.

First of all I only just bought the black and blue ones this week! I'd rather have a black pair of boots to go with them than return the chaps! Second, I already have brown chaps and brown jodhpur boots, though they're not as nice looking but they do the job. Third I only bought brown to go with my Parelli jacket I acquired as that too is brown, I frankly wouldn't wear brown in general! If I really didn't want those black and blue chaps I logically wouldn't have bought them in the first place thus wouldn't create a thread asking for help finding a decent black pair to go with them that are similar to the Horze ones I already found.
There has been some interesting suggestions but obviously nothing that matches what I was looking at unless I was willing to spend £100+ which I am not because A. I just don't really have that kind of money right now and B. Even if I did I wouldn't be blowing it on short boots as not alot of competitions allow them and for casual riding it's quite an expense so it just doesn't seem practical. As horse owners, I'd at least expect people to understand that not everyone wants to just blow hundreds of pounds on gear when their priority should be the horses wellbeing, especially at this time of year, have you guys looked outside?! I'd rather blow hundreds on feed, hay and possible rugs if needed than worry about how great my own footwear is! So excuse me for having priority and budgets.

Sounds more like a waste of money than common sense to me. In the long run I'd certainly be better off getting a more expensive pair that I'd intend to keep and enjoy wearing. Also I never said MH were bad, it just wasn't quite what I was looking for.

I ordered these and absolutely hated them. Such a weird uncomfortable boot. OP i had a pair similar to your original photo from Dublin some years back. Chunky sole and elasticated panel ( after years and years of use both were still fine!) Ill have a quick google and see if i can find them.
