Just wondered really, how many of you were in contact with your horses previous owners and if so how long have you been and will it continue?

I have owned Archie for a little under 3 1/2 years now and am still in touch with his previous owner, Gemma. I feel indebted to her that she thought me worthy to be Archie's new mummy. She was honest and patient (although I tried him and paid a deposit in January I couldn't take him until April and she waited until I was ready for him). She did a cracking job in the two years she owned him - I think a good start is so important. Gemma is welcome to visit anytime and I keep her regularly updated about how we are doing. I feel so lucky that I found my perfect horse and for me she was the perfect previous owner.

still in contact - he was trained about 5 mins away from my yard and his previous owner is my dads boss. They don't tend to visit but always say hello and ask about how hes getting on when I hack pass the gallops. Also steal the horsebox from time to time as well

Yes, and she sent me a DVD of the mare's progress from her first time out XC schooling right up to her Novice rounds.

I keep her updated with the exciting things in the mare's life and no doubt at some point we'll all get together.

Yes. FB's previous owner was one of my closest friends when I lived in Andalucia. She had him from three years old, broke him and used him at her RS until I bought him when he was ten. After his accident he went back to live at her place until he was fit to travel and she knew how worried I was and took great pains to reassure me that he was getting better and sent me videos and photos of him. MoM came from the same stables. In fact, I should ring her tomorrow and tell her I have bought a new horse, if she is not away in Denmark.

Yes I am. It did take the previous a long time to reply initially, He gave me a full history of what he did with the horse when he owned her, but to be quite honest, he was pleased to see the back of her which is why she was sold.
However he did seem genuinely pleased that the horse had found a good home and that I was getting on with her and I send him the odd photo every now and again.

yes regular updates by email and hoping she will visit in future.we met our old lead rein pony last week more by luck than anything but its lovley if youcan keep in touch

Our old mares previous owner contacted us about 10 years ago and came to see her a few times. She still makes sporadic contact now.

Sammys old owner is a member on here and kept intouch even after he was PTS.

Jesper was bought from a man who dealt a little regularly and contacted us a few times in the first 6 months. It tailed off after that as he was more of a "professional" and probably wasn't so attatched as a private owner might have been.

The new babys breeder keeps in contact regularly and sent me pics of his baby sister today. I assume this will contine indefinitely as we send updates and pics all the time. The lady that bought his half brother also keeps in touch with her.

I think it is nice to keep in touch. I have never sold a horse but I think I would like to know how they were and if they were being enjoyed if I did.

No, I wanted to, told her I would and she seemed happy about that.
Got the horse, took her home, sent a photo to the previous owner she texted saying thanks.
I then lost her address so texted her saying if she sent me her email or house address I would send pictures and progress reports. I tried a couple of times, but she never got back in touch

Yep, I was with Goddys old owners right up until I sold him. It is still early days with L, but yes her old owner wants to hear updates, and would like me to go back to hers occasionally for lessons (she is a BSJA accred coach).

I'm not, kind of wish I knew more about her really. She's from a rescue centre although I believe she was donated to them through owner's poor circumstances rather than a cruelty case. I would really love to know more about her start in life, what her dam was like etc

.

Yes she is a very good friend, she came and visited the other week and he spent the whole time sooking up to her, also send her pics and texts regularly.
Also saw the person who owned him 15 years ago just a few weeks ago.

I am no longer in touch with my pony's old owners as they moved away and we lost contact.
I send occasional emails to my horse's last owner although don't hear much from them, and I also have contact with another one of his previous owners via msn. I have just emailed one of his past trainers today as well and although they won't want to have updates of him (as he was very bad at racing) but would be nice to hear anything more about him.

Yes, we exchange Christmas cards with a note. I bought my horse unseen, untried and unvetted as an Advanced Medium schoolmaster and he was exactly as his seller said he was and I still have him. Best investment I ever made. Had him about 7 years now.

Funnily enough I'm just having a text conversation with Patches previous owner as I type.

I've owned her four years, Lucy owned her four years before that.

Yes & we are now best friends....perfect! He is my horse of a lifetime though so don't expect this will happen again. My boy & his PO, Lisa, are so special to me....both of them ...one in a million....I am soooo lucky....xxxx

Not with previous owner, but have spoken to previous previous owner.

When i got him home after worrying whether i had made the right decision because a) horse was sold on behalf of a friend (alarm bells) b) because owner refused to speak to me personally or do a trial c) because i had bought and disposed quickly of 2 complete nutters....

I looked at his passport and decided to take the bull by the horns and ring his first registered owner on his passport to see what they said. Totally ready to hear the worst....

Dialled the number shakily and was told that he was a diamond (she had no need to lie to me :-)) They only sold him because daughter was off to UNI and smaller daughter was too small to hold him together (she wanted to do dressage)

So pleased with doing this

Turns out previous owner had had crap from someone who she put him on loan view to buy with before i bought him, so that ruined it for me

Best bit of all was that we were fated to be.....
I rang 6 months previously about a horse on loan view to buy,. He had gone, so i carried on my search....
When i bought MAX i had no idea..... until i saw the name of his owner on his passport and remembered that i had rung the same woman months before
Rang her to say so, but she didn't seem bothered.

Sent her a picture of us doing a Trec comp and she texted back to say that he looked amazing

Other than that sadly no contact

Would love to keep in touch but don't want to push so i leave it alone

Yes! All of them!!!

Including the owners of ones I have bought, and the owners of ones I have sold.

Especially the owners of the only one I ever bred myself - who are just great with keeping me updated on my baby's (7 now!!) progress!

I know where all my previous horses are, and previous owners know how their's are doing. I am very very lucky, and it makes me sleep well at night!!!

No chance, lol! I ran into her accidentally a few years ago, she made smalltalk until I said "Dylan's doing so well" and she exclaimed "you've still got him?!". Then I knew why she was shifty, she thought she sold me a death trap. I always wondered why anyone would let him go, now I know

huge fool them!!

Yes. I send updates & photos. She sent me pictures of Chilli when she first had him, etc. It's nice knowing his history & I'm glad she still likes to hear about him. She visited a while back & I hope she will again at some point.

Got 1 of mine off a dealer so don't have any contact with them but got my 2 year old in november off a stud and have sent each other an occassional email usually when i want to know something lol

Little pony and donkey, no contact with previous owners.

Murph, see his owner occasionally, usually in Tesco , as they live about 4 miles away, she has called to see him a couple of times but hasn't been recently.
Savannah is now being ridden in lead rein classes by her old owners niece, so has really gone full circle. In fact suspect before too long her old owners daughter may start riding her too!

2 of the ones I own I am in contact with their old owners....but the one I would love to know more about I got from a dealer sadly with no previous owner to contact.

Still in touch with the people I sold our shettie to - get regular PC updates from them and it makes daughter happy to know she is happy.
