Well the head collar trial wasn't the unmitigated success I was hoping for. She was perfect in it on Thursday evening after a little testing of "Can I just go over here instead of over there?" at a walk. Friday, with the same tack, Enormosaurus reverted to the nappy, bucky version. On Saturday, with the bridle back for jumping, she was still crabby. I suspect possibly hormones as she's a mare, though she doesn't really seem to show she's in season. She can go a week or two of being brilliant and then for no obvious reason (to me) go back to being unhappy, and I never know in advance which version I'm getting. The osteopathic vet is coming next week, so I will be talking with him about it and see if there's anything we can do to help her.

100% best long weekend of the year, possibly life! For the first time we travelled with a full support team over to the singles world championships. It’s always a massive privilege to go and even more so as we had an accident where he bolted with the carriage still on (I’d fallen off) at the test event at the end of June. You never know how a bolting horse and carriage will end but thankfully they extracted him with only superficial wounds though the carriage was written off. It was a big veterinary effort to get him sound then a big driving effort to ensure he was still happy in his job, let alone to be team level. We were part of the British team and our squad included 3 individual drivers.
Dressage was the only slightly disappointing phase (I let him stay too long in the frame so he lacked power) but we could not have done better over the 3 phases. For the first time at this level we moved up from 45th to 44th after marathon (78 competitors). A clear cones round where he really stayed with me (another big hurdle- Royal Windsor we had 7 down…) for approx 10 time penalties dropped us to 53rd but we could not be happier.

Most remarkably the British team (complete with my contributing scores) finished in 5th place. 2 years ago we sat down and did the stats of what was needed to move us from the bottom shake up. A mountainous effort from the drivers and support crew have made it happen.

Pau 2020 we were 13th/13 with 0 support team (Covid)
Le Pin 2022 we were 12th/16
And now 5th/17 👌🏻

Photos mainly by Melanie Guilamont and also British squad supporters :)
