bad paying livery - advise please

so i have a livery that has always been a bad payer not awful but always a couple of days late everymonth - i have spoken to her about it on numerous occasions she is also bad at paying farrier and for lessons so much so that it dont get worked or shod if the money is not paid upfront !! she also always forgets like £10 of it - hmmm cheeky !!

So livery was due this saturday - no sign of her and as the 1st was friday i thought oh she'll be down tomorrow - NOTHING !! so ive tried calling and sending a text - no reply !!

then today again nothing from her - left her a shitty message then tried calling her mum and left her a message - no answer no reply ??

What would you do???
 
Get her to pay by standing order a month in advance. i.e. she pays on 1st May for the month of May - any extras she asks for during the month can be on a cash upfront basis as the sensible farrier and instructor have decided to do.
 
Yep...direct debit/standing order is the way to go,just bill for any little extras at month end

I know where she lives d- horse in lorry tied to her parents gates would work !!

good for it isnt the word new mini convertable for her birthday - holidays everywhere !!!

so i guess i should pay for her horses keep for a week should i out of my own pocket ???

Nope, you could get done for abandonment. Trust me we looking in to all of this.

Why should everyone fund her - presumeably Stacey has bills waiting to be paid once the liveries money is in. So there's a whole load of people waiting for this girl to pay out. Frankly I think it's just rude to be late paying!

Why should everyone fund her - presumeably Stacey has bills waiting to be paid once the liveries money is in. So there's a whole load of people waiting for this girl to pay out. Frankly I think it's just rude to be late paying!

Yes, but why would you want to. Don't make the horse pay for the owners lack of responsibility.

Send a letter recorded delivery to her house. And give her an ultimatum.

At the same time, tell all your liveries that they must set up a direct debit to pay their livery - and that they'll receive an additional bill at the end of each month for the extra's .

It's what has always been done on any livery yard that i've been on.
 
I don't know about the rest of your liveries but how about you give them all notification that as of now all livery must be paid by direct debit/standing order with extras billed at end of month payable in cash within 7 days. This is what our YO did a couple of years ago - to be honest it makes it easier as I know my basic livery is paid in full on time and the variables (ie hay and turnout etc) are paid in cash on payday - so always up to date.

Obviously better for you as you know that on the 31st/1st of a month you will have £x in your account.

Well, presumably they're your premisses so you're not paying her rent, you buy bulk forage and bedding which is supplied to whichever horse is in that box, and farrier bills are separate, I shouldn't think you'd be significantly out of pocket. Plus then it gets paid. Unless you're struggling for money I can't see as it makes that much difference, but if you want to stress about particular days its up to you.

You could also charge extra for late payment - I've employed that tactic in the past in my business and it worked wonders!!

no but I pay a mortgage which paid for my stables to be built every month

I also buy the feed / hay /bedding for that horse and pay my grooms to do it - i cant say sorry cant pay the feed or bedding bill or the grooms cos she hasnt paid me can i???

id say im currently £60 out of pocket - obviously if you wouldnt mind how about you pop a cheque in the post to cover her livery for a few weeks see if you mind?

I'm a livery in three separate places! None of which are this uptight. At my main yard you're doing well to get the YMs attention long enough to get her to take your money.

EWent to a yard at a farm once to take a pony, signs up everywhere that rent was due on a Saturday, if paid late additional 50p first day, £1 the second and so on on a sliding scale.

That was in the days when 50p was probably equal to £5 these days. Everyone paid on time.

DD wasn't an option in those days but now that is the way to do it.
 
I have never been on a yard that demands cash immediately on presentation of a bill, I must be lucky, I have 2/3 weeks grace to pay my bill, although I usually pay it within the first week. And yes my boss has been late paying my salary and I don't complain, maybe here in Ross peeps are a bit more laid back
