So am a little bored and thought why not do a fun thread.

What is the worst named horse you’ve ever come across?

You know that name and you think ‘Who named a horse that?’

When I saw the ad for my mare it disclosed her name was Tina. I can remember thinking what an awful name for such a lovely horse (and was a little off putting until I tried her)
I originally wanted to change it, but after getting to know her for a few days it had absolutely stuck.
My old farrier’s wife used to own her, and one day he asked me did I ever consider changing her name - because her previous owner had had exactly the same reaction as me, until she’d had her for a week and couldn’t think of a name that better suited her.

What are your ‘who named that horse?’ moments?

My horse was called "Moose." Nope. That got changed. Before buying him, while faffing with vet checks and multiple visits test riding, OH and I made a point of referring to him as "The Highland." Otherwise, we risked getting into the habit of calling him Moose, and I could not live with that. I didn't want to commit to a new name until he was a sure thing, but I didn't want that habit, either.

I used to ride a mare called Dusty. She was the most beautiful girl, all long lashes and delicate features. Affectionate, kind, almost human sometimes. I always wondered how she got that name!

There was a horse at the RS i went to in my younger years called Gremlin ? It would suit a cheeky pony, but he was a large chunky boy who was sooo gentle, even for beginners. Im not sure of his breeding tbh, he looked like a finer shire horse, with a hogged mane that was always a perfect mohican.

Another horse there, who was a huge shire named Robin, yet he was anything but a light-footed sweet robin as the whole yard would hear when he was kicking the door to his extra large stable! Although he was roan coloured.
He was named after his owner who owned the yard, which now i think on it, is a bit strange, as i cant imagine naming my horse my name!

My horse is Miseria, which is Spanish for misery. He can be v grumpy so it does suit him sometimes but I wish I’d changed it when I bought him.

First horse was called Hissing Sid and I hated it so called him Sam. I quite like Sid now.

Heard a horse at a show years ago called 3D which sounded like VD over the tannoy ( venereal disease to you young ones!)

My pony was called Fairy. She’s a ginger Welsh mare with attitude, so I can’t think of a more inappropriate name! I changed it because I didn’t know what it was at the time, but definitely would have done anyway.

We also have a Dusty. He’s a beautiful dun - but I guess he does look kinda dusty… that one doesn’t bother me.

my other horse is called HesTheOne which is sweet - but commentators can’t see at all. Last week they called us Hessian.

My connie's called "Declan". It's a ridiculous name for a horse and doesn't suit him but he came from a dealer who had another called "Ant" and at the time my daughter was taken in by all the rubbish about it being unlucky to change a name.
BTW I rather like some of the names on here, nowt wrong in my view with Moose, Frank or Dusty.

I bought a chestnut Han/TB called Heidi, that absolutely could not stay. I wasn't sure what to change it to but I heard a song on the radio, " Indiana loves me...."
so I liked that and called her Indiana, Indie for short, not to unlike Heidi in sound.

Our companion pony is called Winnie, perfectly suitable but she didn't have a passport so we decided to posh her up a bit and her registered name is Eowyn's Windfola, she has an E shaped white mark on her forehead.
