Great pictures AE! And really pleased to hear they've taken the penalties off!
Baby Paddy had a lovely first outing yesterday, 31.9 dressage, clear showjumping and a wee run out at the double cross country, but still ended up 7th as the course was causing plenty of problems!

So pleased they have removed the penalities AE and some great pics. Red, I love your horse! I hacked on Friday, gave Mr D a bath in the sunshine on Saturday (I really miss just messing around with a horse) and this morning I schooled him. He is going very nicely and producing some lovely work for me. I wish I'd had something like him when I was younger as I feel he allows me to make a mistake and learn from it. Not all my horses have been as forgiving. This afternoon I wrote at a dressage comp, just UA but Nov and Ele. Having to be careful here but I saw such a sweet willing connie who would be perfect for me but he's not for sale and not likely to be. He could be so lovely...............

totally horsed out this weekend o_O
just pottering at home but a LOT of pottering needs doing

Chipped away at loading practice at the yard. Moved Millie and Kira to the nursery field. Other mares trimmed and wormed. Quiz has been a good egg and Frank has carried on with a bit of school. Lesson tomorrow then Frank has an appointment with a freelancer to see if we can get him riding away a bit... busy day at work tomorrow then a sleepover at the yard so i can have an alcoholic catch up with a friend :D

Looking alright for 25 and still shedding her winter woollies, good old Millie, I do appreciate having a horse that i can take anywhere and do anything with. she's been such a good friend over the last 18 years.

Lovely photos AE.

Nice end to the weekend with a sunny hack out on Bertie with a friend, followed by a quick spin in the school in trot and canter. He went beautifully, lovely and steady rhythm in the trot, clean transitions, decent canter, and minimal whooshing coming from canter down to trot. Sometimes you have to celebrate the ‘small things’, and remember how far we’ve come - from bobbling about with a very inconsistent jack hammer trot, a wall of death canter, and I couldn’t keep to the outside of the school.

Finn is all good after having a puffy leg after last weekends fast work. Took him out in hand and he’ll do walk hack this week and build back up again. Very relieved but need to sort out a plan for keeping them both fit and active but not working on hard ground ?

Had a good lesson this morning. I took the wimp's way out and turned the boys out for a couple of hours first thing rather than ride from the stable :p but it was worth it, Q was much quieter than he usually is in the mornings, a good boy at the mounting block and then coped well sharing the arena with a 5* horse busy prepping his Badminton test :D He worked his socks off and was completely pooped by the end, a good feeling, i don't think I've got to the bottom of him properly before now so that was useful!

it's only been a couple of months but he does look a lot stronger already which is encouraging. Chatted with trainer afterwards and we thought he is probably who he is going to be now, behaviour-wise, but he's getting a better understanding of what i want from him so the blips are easier to manage. I still have a fair bit of groundwork to do as the weekend has shown that stuff like loading and travelling is going to be a challenge but the ridden work is feeling like we can just crack on now.

Frank photobombing!

After XC on Saturday, we had a couple of days hacking around the village, then today we went to the local country park ride with a friend and her horse.

We had a lovely walk round, chatted and laughed, took 2 hours.

With Baby Horse's new found cross country prowess, we popped a ditch, cantered a few logs, splashed through water and went up and down a step. It was all lovely and relaxed, just walking along, having a pop then strolling off. He even managed a wooden bridge, a concrete bridge and opening and holding a gate.

A lovely ride out in great company. ?

A gratuitous photo of the main man, tied to the box at the end of the ride.

Going to sneak this in before the next weekend thread starts up - it's been so busy it's the first chance I've really had to sit down and write about it.
Saturday saw Belle heading out for some xc schooling at Tweseldown (probably the only place around here where the ground isn't rock hard). She was acting as nanny horse for a fellow HHO pony. She was fab, and did everything exactly as needed - giving a lead as necessary, and letting them go off on their own. She has done absolute wonders for my confidence too.
Sunday was a hack and chat with a friend.

Then Monday Shambles went to a local RC fun dressage day. No plaiting, no show gear - perfect. We tried an elementary and a medium. He was rather hot and tense so some big mistakes (buck, flying change, and wiggled down the centre line for a 4!) At one point it really made me think of that discussion of keeping your leg on on a hot horse, I've never had to hug with my leg so much! So not great scores, but all good experience.

Then yesterday took both of them to the local gallops, first time for all of us. Was worried that Shambles may be a bit explosive but he was a dude, and very much not fussed about going fast. Belle on the other hand had a great time, and loved up to her turbocob nick name.

Here's to a quiet weekend coming.
