Barefoot post - sorry, short

BM..why did you not just compose a questionnaire ? That way you could have collected facts and not just opinions. It's a far better method to get an overall and accurate picture of what is happening in the barefoot or shod camps rather than making comments designed to get a reaction from people.
You have made some comments which seem to indicate that might not be entirely unbiased. That is not in itself a problem. You are allowed to have opinions :). Honest.;)
A starting point for any analysis is that you outline your hypothesis. Your's might be, for instance, that you believe that barefoot horses suffer more hoof complaints than shod horses. You then design a questionnaire which should be clear and concise. Once you get your data you then analsye the resulting responses. Then you can say whether you have proved your original hypothesis or not.
A survey on the other hand does not need to start with a hypothesis but is designed to collect data on whatever your selected field of study is and of course you can draw conclusions from this type of data too.

If you are studying then keep an open mind. That way you will learn a lot more in life. And remember there are lies, damn lies and statistics :)

Because I posted 30min before a lecture as a on the spot :) I should have done it another time and more prepared :)

I dont know. I dont see the difference anyway. I wasnt going to go to uni, then did. I dont mind either way so dont start saying im calling people uneducated. HHO confuses me :( Start a poll on it?

It's quite simple badgermyers. If you are straight with people then they will be straight with you. If you ask for the information that you want, instead of playing silly psychological games, then you will be given it. If you ask questions, instead of making wild assumptions like people's education or attitude to "natural" horsekeeping, then you will find answers instead of peeing people off.

I hope that helps, for any further involvement that you choose to have in HHO.

Huh???

I made a consious effort to go barefoot myself last summer and it made a huge difference to my flat arches and also ment the pain I normally got standing / on my feet for periods of time dissappeared. It is back but to a lesser extent since winter so will be back to bare from now on.

We don't put metal shoes on humans and expect them to run on tarmac?

My horse is BF trimmed ever 4 weeks to keep them in balance, he is well balanced and doesn't slip in all types of going (hunting, eventing,SJ, dr, beachwork and about to do his first endurance this weekend). He did slip and was insecure on his feet as we were improving his hoof balance but since that has gotten better no issues.

Would love to post some pics but don't seem to be able to attach them. If you want to venture over to a NZ forum his pics are here: http://www.equichat.co.nz/equichat_forum/aft/1965/afnp/46654 under Katrena :)

I find the more roadwork I do the more his feet grow. I use boots for stones.

ROFL - 'cos I know I do it all wrong. :D

Horses are Strasser trimmed, live in a paddock with green grass all year around that's a bog in the winter, they also eat whole oats (every day !) and lucerne chaff, are covered and clipped as necessary. I ride on tar seal, stones, sand (great for fitness !) and anything else that comes our way. Haven't used boots, I'm far too lazy for all that, also don't do the soaking thing either.

<=== he has done around 3000 km of endurance most of it BF. And if I could figure out how to post a photo, I would show you his hooves after a 160 km ride with no boots. Been retired about three years now and we pretend to do a bit of dressage, showing and anything else that looks like fun.

Current endurance pony is my BF baby (no transition :) ) and is in her second season of endurance and we are off to do a 90 km ride tomorrow.

See - all wrong. :D

*waves* to Maccachic.

Not sure if that worked or not.

Arabs are bred to cope with their environment so yes if you are on sand fine, on roads all the time....not so much.

I can't follow your line of thinking. I see hooves of all breeds adapt beautifully to the environments they live and work in, taking as little as six weeks to show the changes they are making.

As the proud owner of an (now deceased) Arab who cheerfully did 50 plus miles a week on roads and aware of the exploits of barefoot Endurance Arabs I am well aware of their capability over all surfaces, if managed properly.

Um and all the deserts I've visited where Arabs come from are very rocky, lots of sand too, but also shed loads of rock. Beautiful mind when sleeping under the stars.

Actually...not all humans wear shoes.

And if we didn't then we would get thick hard calloused skin for protection....

We only wears shoes because custom dictates....we are capable of NOT wearing them....

I'd happily go shoeless if it weren't for dog ***** and broken glass and the cold. I frequently scoot about in summer barefoot and fancy free or in very cheap (thin) plimsolls.
