Barefoot post - sorry, short

Oh no...! There must be some kind of infectious barefoot soundness disease, I have 3 with it too....! :)

* 2 of mine do get linseed though, it makes them shiny!!

Yep..coblet 6 year old never shod..sound as a pound. Should we shoe him to see if he can cope with footwear?
Arab tb x sound but has thrush.no fault of being barefoot :).

Well I did apologise in my title. But if you wanted to offer me advice that would be fine. She doesn't wear boots either :D

I hope you aren't just forgetting to tell people that it took five years of her limping and hobbling to "transition" :D ?

ps I have two. The other was about 1% unsound for the first five minutes today, which considering that we are less than 4 weeks into a rehab of a horse who has not worked sound for about 4 years is pretty much a miracle :D

They give up after 5 years because of one warm wet summer causing maximum low grade laminitis? Sigh.

my point proven that not all horses can go barefoot

Not proven at all badgermyers. We have no idea if Tangos Mum balanced his minerals, restricted his grass intake, fed him a low sugar high fibre diet, tested him for Cushings and IR and EPSM, had a good trimmer or a lousy one etc etc etc.

What you know is that that horse, in the care of that owner, could not go barefoot.

TM this DOES NOT mean that I think you are wrong to shoe. It's what you need to do and what he needs, so go for it.

Hang on so you are wanting horses to be as natural as possible copeing without shoes. Then you restrict their natural forgae, grass? Im not sure all natural/wild horses have balanced minerals either. Domestic horses and wild horses are genetically different....deal with it

Where did I say anything about "natural" Badgermyers?

I am no tree hugger. Please put your prejudices back in their box.

I restrict grazing to prevent low grade laminitis, not so that I can avoid using shoes. I don't use shoes because my horses don't need them, because several were lamed by them, and because it saves me £800 per horse per year.

ps you need to do some research about the genetic origins of horses. Their natural diet was not grass, they originated in areas of scrubland and very poor grazing.

you didnt explain that. Most people I see dont use shoes because its natural. Its hard to understand everyone of a forum
