Best way to keep vicious dog out of field that is attacking the

I do hope the posters and word of mouth around your area works and you have no more trouble with the dog.

It is interesting to hear the amount of people who are advocating shooting the dog. Farmers are entitled to protect their livestock (ie livelihood and the nation's food) from an attacking dog by shooting if no other method works. An owner who keeps a horse for leisure purposes is a very different prospect and I would doubt they would be protected under the same law.

As the wife of a sheep farmer, I can say with some certainty that, for most farmers, shooting a dog is absolutely the last resort and I don't know one who takes pleasure in it.

Exactly its the last thing we need , education in my mind goes so much further! We do it sometimes because we have to but until you have you may not understand whats involved.

Totally agree, my one main dread is having our sheep attacked. We electric fence virtually every field if there is no stock fencing in place so try to minimise the risk but you can't protect yourself from ignorant dog owners.

That article post just back up what we have all said. There is justifiable reason to shoot thto dog. It is attacking, worrying and damaging livestock. End of.

Of course no farmer intentionally wants to shoot a dog but no farmer wants his livestock to suffer at th hands of an out of control dog either. This dog is not being controlled through negligence or intentionally letting it loose, the owner is not forth coming in owning up as they would go to jail potentially for owning a dangerous dog so therefore shooting the dog is perfectly within the rights of the landowner/farmer.
